Dan McStay kicking straight

Dan is going to rip a game apart soon.

Could easily have kicked 5 against Freo.

His "almosts" are slowly transitioning into reality.

Just needs to nail a few easy ones early in a match and he'll be on for 7 or 8.

The single biggest positive for me this year is Tom Cutler. He was in no man's land this time last year and looked like he was going to be another player on our list that didnt reach their potential, now.. he is looking like an AFL footballer with a 200 game career ahead of him.
Tom is a great player and has been my personal favourite at the Lions for a few seasons now.

He has the ability to be our best player IMO, a big call I know, but he has all the tricks, breaks through lines and has one of the best kicks at the club and even better, he is humble and is a classy bloke.

One positive I've noticed this year we don't miss rockliff at all.

A guy at work and I were talking about the footy and something came up about last years draft/trade period (remembers it was him saying we didn't lose anyone important last year) and I had to actually look it up to remember we had moved on Rockliff and Schache. So apparently I am not missing him either :)

I love Bundy. But there are 2 serious areas he lacks in.

1 - He never has any time in congestion, just one of those blokes who gets gang tackled the moment he scoops the ball. You'll never see him stepping through traffic like Beams and Zorko.

2 - He lacks serious penetration on his kicks, rarely makes the distance from anywhere outside 30 meters unless its a set shot.

He does crack in hard though, no wonder he kept breaking his collar bone, might be some technique issues there because i swear at least twice a game there's an instance where you think he has done it again lol.
You say he never has any time in congestion. Have a look at the handball he gave Zorko while surrounded by dockers players when Zorko magically disappeared from everyone and scored a goal from 20metres out. Listen to the commentary about his handball.

Yeah all players have examples of the opposite, never was too strong. There were a few instances where he shoveled a pass out on the weekend.

He also gets wrapped up a lot and you'll rarely see him stepping through traffic.

Bundy has struggled with battling tackles this year for the first time in his career. It has never been a strong suit but it's been a big weakness in his game this year.

With that said, as he's become more confident at AFL level after such a long layoff (I'd say since the Hawks game or thereabouts) he's reduced this deficiency quite a lot.

His game on the weekend speaks volumes for me - I watched the replay and it really highlighted how hard Bundy is working to spread and cover the field. He ran both ways and impacted the scoreboard both in goals and setting up shots. His link up work was A grade.

His next step is building on that - keep working to develop this part of his game to be a consistent feature and he will prove to be a very good asset to the team if he can stay fit. He is exactly what our young blokes need in the middle and exactly what the older heads need in terms of support.

Harris Andrews and Charlie Cameron being out and us still playing so well is a huge positive to come out of the weekend, they would both be top 6 players for us in terms of the roles they play. We are building a game plan that every player understands and having a one soldier out one in attitude where they all know their role is extremely important.

Forgetting about draft picks, I'd really like to see us win at least three of our remaining eight games.

That's wins against Carlton and Gold Coast, and one of the other six games, each of which is against teams fighting for a top eight or top four spot.

That way we finish with four wins from our last nine - which is reasonable - we get 5 wins for the season so at least we don't go backwards from last year, and we get to shape the finals in a small way.

I think the Big O has gone a bit under the radar - he's no star just yet but he really has been a good contributor averaging a goal and 12 odd hitouts a game. I was pretty impressed with his first goal on the weekend as its the first time I've seen him really fly at the ball in the air as opposed to just taking a pack mark with his height.

It's a tough position to play and for someone under 10 games he's already a solid part of the team. I hope we persist with him for the rest of the year as it seems to have brought the best out of stef too.

Have really noticed his hard running through the middle of the ground.
