Post our win on sat night my 10 year old swapped out of soccer and into afl at school for inter school sports. Never played afl before.

Following on from your post here LF 2020, it's things like this example which infuriate me when it comes to people bashing fair weather fans. Now, I don't have kids, but I'm pretty sure it's tough on kids to go to the footy to watch their team get flogged every week - thus, whilst the parents might wanna go to the footy and support the team, if the kids aren't gonna have a good time, there's very little point. It's probably very difficult to explain concepts like team loyalty, flying the flag and cycles of dominance to youngsters, outside of a brief outline.

So, when the team starts winning, it makes it easier to attend the footy with your family, because at least the kids will have fun again - and then you have muppets decrying them as "fair weather fans". GAGF.

I like to go with "bandwagon jumpers" and I'll take all that want to jump on board.

Exactly the scenario I've had with my boys. Eldest starts auskick this year and it's the first time I've been able to encourage watching the footy with me now. Kids don't tolerate dad yelling at the tv very well.

Only shame is the local team is called the sun's....

Just looking at the stats for our win against the Eagles. I wonder when we last had 10 players with 20 or more disposals in a game and another (Robbo) with 19. Spreading the load.

We are starting to have our opponents respect us. No longer do opposition posters go along with ‘let’s get this game over and done with’ or ‘we’ll win by 10 goals so let’s rest some players’.

Feels great tbh and it’s the start of getting back into the top 8.

The expression I hate is "this is a danger game". Which implies that "well, we shouldn't lose to this mob but we might if we're not careful".

Apart from 15 minutes in the first quarter for the remaining 105 minutes out of 120 minutes we effectively beat west coast by 100-20.

Bulldogs 16, Richmond 17 and west coast and Collingwood 18 have proved that the current afl competition is set up for unfancied teams to win the premiership. Lots of factors conspire for this to happen: easier draws for bottom teams, bye before finals, more teams diluting the talent across the competition, ......
A team just needs to get on a roll with a good game plan which suits the make up of their team and winning a flag isn't as hard as when the big three dominated (hawthorn, sydney, Geelong).
Therefore, I really do think we are in the window to win the flag this year. Once we beat north by 50 and go top of the table more people will jump on board!

Went to the Darby last night, the Melbourne pub that is the Lons Melbourne home. Greg Swann was there, with Chrissie Jonno, Lawrie Serafini and Joan Eddie, Pres of Fitzroy.
Swan informed us that after out win last week the total seats sold went from 8000 to 22000.!!!!!!!!!!!!
