Not a positive per se but that loss to Carlton before the Bye was probably the best thing that could have happened to us. Since that black day, we have looked reinvigorated and galvanized as a team.

Our run to the Premiership in 2001 was similar in that it all turned around after a shocking loss to the Blues ,also in Melbourne.

As a another piece of synchronicity I can tell you that in 2001 ,yours truly made a special trip to Melbourne only to have his hopes shattered at the hands of the Blues. Just Like I did this year.

It's written in the stars.

2019 Premiership here we come.

Our club (thanks fagan/Nobel/other coaches/etc) approach as described by Lyons when he transferred.

He said gc was all about what the players weaknesses/need to improve, while we were all 'you have this weapon/s and this is how they can fit into our team'.

Our approach lets the players develop their natural game which they love. It also links thinking about their strengths wrt to the strengths of their teammates - I have this strength, the guy next to me has that strength. Simple yet brilliant.

For Lyons - well he decided that set up around stoppages was one of his strength and apparently he studies opposition set ups each week and works out how to beat them. This is exactly the type of initiative that is required for the team to be the best.

And all the other players are reading from the same copy book and doing the same type of thinking.

And it's our club bedrock and why we will be the best, and not just one year wonders!!

Extending Fagan's contract last year.

I remember when we announced the contract extension last year the media was 50-50. Some were praising Fagan for turning the club around after the bye and noting the increased competitiveness and general improvement of the Lions. Others (like that fwit Barrett) were claiming this was premature and harkening back to the Leppa days of head office mismanagement. They focused on the Lions W-L record (particularly pre-bye). The Flog Barrett was pumping out articles about how Fagan's 'honeymoon' was over this year and that he better deliver results (without stipulating what target he should be aiming for). At the beginning of the season they had Fagan as one of the at risk coaches of losing their job. Barrett was pumping out these articles whilst sucking on Bolton's dick so hard he ingested a whole whopper load of calories.

Now that we are 10-5, imagine if we still hadn't extended Fagan's contract? We would be competing against Carlton, North Melbourne and probably St Kilda to keep him. He would have had so much money thrown at him by Carlton. Thank **** we've locked him away here.

Also the last weeks:

Cons - having to sit through the shite that is The Bounce to watch the team son. I cant stand the floggish boofheadedness of that show

Pros - Mooney being salty as **** that Lincoln McCarthy is tearing the game apart in Lions colours. I hope we meet Geelong in a finals and McCarthy eats them alive.

Morons like Barrett and Hutchinson chose to ignore the week to week improvement in the squad; which Fagan continually, and I mean continually, highlighted was the goal for this squad. Low and behold every week they would get better and better, withstanding a few setbacks, and now with his process it's seemingly paid off. The same pricks that were decrying Fagan in search of their weekly headline will be pumping him up this week and they'll act like they've been seeing the signs for ages. It's just what they do. They should be ignored.

And Barrett is now saying we can win the premiership. Bandwagoner with no real footy insight, just reacting to the bleeding obvious

One of the knocks on our guys in the media is our lack of finals experience and the fact we haven't played finals recently. A lot of media commentators who are comparing us to Richmond and the Bulldogs are saying that they experienced finals in previous years before going on to success. However, if you look at our individual players we do have quite a number of them who have experience.

Hodge- 23
Neale- 7
Cameron- 7
Christenson- 7
Robinson- 5
Bastinac- 4
McCarthy- 3
Walker- 3
Rich- 1

Taking out Bastinac, who is not looking like he will be recalled before the end of the season, that's 8 players and a third of our team who have finals experience. Our four most experienced players have also played in a Grand Final. And with senior players who have been consistent for years like Zorko, Martin, Andrews and Gardiner, I don't think we will be too overawed in September.

In keeping to the theme of the thread - by the time the prelim rolls around we'll have at least 22 players with finals experience.

I'm not worried.

Small nit pick but Rich has played in two finals, elim vs Carlton (W) and semi vs Dogs (L).

Fagan can do whatever he likes - keep Rayner, drop Cutler, ignore Walker etc etc etc if he can get us to play like that. Amazing post-bye performance, gone from likely finalist to likely top 4.

Ah you’re right! For some reason I only remembered that epic win against Carlton :p.

Give me a minute, I'm sure I'll come up with something

How about the AFL's foresight in scheduling us to two away games in a row then a six day break against a side with a seven day break and knowing that would still be competitive!

Does Champion Data record smothers as a separate stat? If so, we must surely have close to breaking some records in that match.
I think they get thrown into the 1%er category.

And a mention on the front page. Didn’t even look at that - never would have expected it.
Pretty sure that NEDS would be getting a better return on their investment with us at the moment than with the Titans?

That and soccering off the ground. Cant remember seeing that many in a game ever
