And we still have Lachie Neale to come back in.

We are only up to round 11 & already our 4 main scoring weapons (Charlie, Joey, Hippy & Dan) have over 70 goals between them. I would go as far to say that we now have the most potent forward line in the competition.
Its hard not to get excited about how they are tracking thus far. Regardless of what happens this week, our best 22 can match it with any team in the competition should they play close to their ability.I think it's undeniable now. Consider we are missing Rayner and Cockatoo has yet to get to his best.
If we can have a fit and firing best 22 come finals, I can genuinely see us going all the way.
In addition to Linc coming on board, you look at our young lads (25 or under) who have already established their selves as best 22 if fit and have many years left to play at the highest level (hopefully with The Lions):Linc McCarthy.
Seriously, what a pick up has this guy been. For the most part is consistent and just a human highlight reel. Getting Lachie was good - I mean who can argue with that, but man, Linc is a jet and his pace even surprised me when he got that soccer off the ground coming from the hills.
If there was ever a sudden death goalkicking extra time thing, he'd be my man at the club. Bailey is good too, but Linc would be my man.
Lots of young promising kids, reckon we still need a few more young midfielders in there. Ashcroft will help.In addition to Linc coming on board, you look at our young lads (25 or under) who have already established their selves as best 22 if fit and have many years left to play at the highest level (hopefully with The Lions):
Dev, Ah Che, Clugg, J.Berry, Rayner, Dizzy, Harris, Hippy, Starc, Paynie, Jimmy Madden, Bailey, Noah Answerth = 13
Then you hope these guys come up to another level over the next season or 2 as well:
Cockatoo, Kiddy, Prior, H.Sharp, H.Smith, Fullerton, McFadyen, Joyce, T.Berry, B.Smith = 9
The future looks bright for at least 5-7 years I believe.
I feel Dan McStay deserves a special mention for his game yesterday. Stood up and led from the front. Love how he's matured as a player this year.

Credit to him he's fixed the yips and he's playing with a lot more confidence and aggression. When he played well it used to mostly be in the first or second quarters whereas now we're getting an even spread.Equalled his career best goal hauls twice this year

I'm still hopeful he can develop into a utility type up the ground . Hipwood going down has probably thwarted that for a while.
I know . But he's actually putting them straight through the centre , never any doubt . You'd think Daniher being a lefty would look at McStay and think well why on earth am I taking a big swing at everything when I'm 30m out. It'll take a while though before I can watch him taking an 'easy' set shot. Still had to look away on the weekend despite the result of the game being a foregone conclusion
It's pleasing to see him have a decent year but in saying that, he's now played 135 games so it's not unreasonable to expect him to contribute more now. I just hope he now launches himself into being a more consistent player because the team needs him desperately now more than ever.I know . The other thing about McStay is that he's an exceptional penetrative field kick which is why I'd love to get it in his hands more often from half back through to half forward. Sort of like what we do with Rich in the back half.
I do kinda wonder if being the focal point could work for him. He is a massive confidence player and once he gets going he can be hard to stop. He's getting more of the ball than he ever has. Daniher and Charlie have become problems when we're not winning or playing well. Yesterday McCarthy who is one of our best pressure players was down, Ah Chee and McStay tried to apply a lot of pressure , Cocky was also good in that regard considering his prep. I think Joe and Charlie in particular need to also be told that kicking goals isn't the be all and end all.Everytime he talks about his role or Fagan speaks about his role the first thing they mention is that kicking goals isn't his main focus. If he can kick 1.5 goals a game this year it'll be a good effort but he has to do the hard things Joe and Charlie won't do
Agree, Charlie has been really disappointing this season with his defensive pressure, he has the tools to be elite in this area but he only brings it spasmodically unfortunately.Daniher and Charlie have become problems when we're not winning or playing well.
