Ok quick question.

Let's not delve into how we've won or lost, or players form, or what may happen in the future with our draw etc etc

Let's just keep it to simple metrics.

Is there anyone on this board who wouldn't have been happy with 7-2-1 at the start of the season?

Put your hand up.

briztoon is pissed at our start as he was hoping we'd get a pick in before Annable.

I am happy to win a GF every now and then, I lived off the 3peat for well over a decade of putrid results, I'd take a flag and then a couple of down years every day of the week.

I am happy to win a GF every now and then, if by now and then you mean every now and then each year.

Lol good point, I guess it's just kudos for the kid. He comes in for some flack but is obviously well regarded in the industry. Would hate for them to try and poach him but if he follows the money (up to 1m sign on) they will have plenty of first rounders to cough up. ;)

Zac Bailey would be 28 and at the peak of his powers if he keeps building his consistency and no major injury concerns. Can't begrudge him for cashing in.

Gotta lose someone, sometime.
Except if/when the AFL throw in a ā€œTasmania have the right to sign 2 players from every club, the AFL will chip in half a mil per contract, and we’re not doing compensation this timeā€.
(but let’s not derail the positives thread).

Listening to Luke Hodge on SEN this morning. He took the family the watch Brisbane vs Melbourne on the weekend. He essentially said the kids are Lions supporters.
Cooper Hodge… wouldn’t it be a dream to play AFL for the club you supported in your youth!
Hodgey also said not much to worry about at the Lions. A few tweaks here and there, but you want to be hitting your peak about round-20, not round-10. šŸ‘šŸ»

Supporters overreact to mid season form, me included.

AFL seasons have been full of mid season Flag "certainties" that have fallen short in September.

Going back over the ladders this century most minor premiers end up losing around 5 games per H&A season.

No doubt the current ladder is not the entire story re our form but hopefully off the back of a very short off season we are just timing our run to perfection.

Love Hodgey, the whole family seems well settled in Brisbane .

Not sure where to put this but it made me feel good so here it is.

Kirk has definitely had an impact on the midfielders at Freo at the time. The other guy that played for them that won 2 Browlows has also specifically spoken about how important Kirk was for his development as a player.

Mr Reliable. The consistent word from recruiters is that the margin between Annable’s best and worst is smaller any player in this class. He is headed to the Lions as a potential top-three pick, unless he unjustifiably slips like past academy prospects such as Tom Green and Nick Blakey. He is tough, clean and wins his own ball, and his leadership skills were evidenced in him captaining the AFL Academy team this year.
ā€œShifterā€ says: ā€œHe has as good hands as anyone we’ve seen in recent years. He doesn’t fumble, and whatever the situation, he is so clean and has great vision, with the ability to quickly making the right decision by hand and foot. He’s a rock-solid, early choice.ā€

No one's done fourth or sixth, right? Why bother repeating ourselves.
Strange no one has won from 4th.
Is that the AFL era. Even so that's a long time.
Fourth gets the hardest game first up playing the home and away leader in an away game.
An away game should not be an issue when Victorian teams play each other.
If you get a thumping, it may hurt playing the next game.
I can't think of any real reason no one has won from 4th
