Back in the 60s, there was some sort of function in Brisbane, to which a number of famous footballers were invited. As a TV personality, my great aunty was also a guest, and at the last minute invited her niece (my Mum). A young lass in her early 20s, from a working class family, and not a chance to go home and change, she wore her office job attire. Anyhoo, lots of meets & greets before retiring to the ballroom for some dances, Barrassi looked my Mum up & down with a sneer of disdain, looking down his nose with a real air of self importance at this starry eyed girl like she was common trash.Lucky enough to have lunch with Ron Barrassi today with a few others. It is the positives thread and he is positively a champion.
(Apologies for the name drop but just excited and humbled).

Having salary cap room for the first time in a long time.

Sorry, just offering some contrast I guess.I am really sorry your mum had a bad experience Skoob. Maybe he and many footballers in their 20's struggle to maintain a level head when young, others mature earlier. I would suggest that in the next 50 odd years of his life Barrassi has put a few coins in the bank of human decency and would say to you the man I met yesterday would not be proud of that day and would apologize if they met again. I am not sure why you felt the need to bring it up to be honest.
Anyway, back to the positives.
Man it is crazy, watching other teams play then watching our boys play and it really seems our guys love and play for each other more than a lot of other teams. The GC for instance seem like they lack personalities etc. Ultimately, I am so glad our crop of lions are our team
Between Zorko, Green, Rocky, Squizzy, Dizzy, Clark, and Hanley there are a lot of great characters in the team, but kudos to the Lions social media efforts in helping to get them out there.Yeah I have a mate who is a Lions man who was a bit disengaged in recent years due to some life changes but has been paying attention again this year.
He keeps remarking about how likeable and fun our young players are now and the spirit they play with.
You mean Zorky, Greeny, Rocky, Squizzy, Dizzy, Clarky and Hanl'y. And our departing champions Blacky, Browny, Molon'y and McGrath'y.Between Zorko, Green, Rocky, Squizzy, Dizzy, Clark, and Hanley there are a lot of great characters in the team, but kudos to the Lions social media efforts in helping to get them out there.
I think it is a rarely considered upside of having a few guys in a team who consider it a privilege just to be playing AFL for a living. For players like Rockliff, Clarke, Hanley, Taylor they were considered something of a risk to draft - too short, too unexposed to top level footy, wrong body type, too...Irish, whatever. So every game is a reminder how good it is to be playing at this level. Increasingly they play like they love it too.
.
Down at half time 1.1.7 to 3.3.21, the boys came out and dominated the premiership quarter.Son's under 14 team won their first final 14.14 to 3.0
Prelim final next Saturday

yep definitly more excited now than this time last year. The players we got from the GH5 are going to exceed them imo.I love how Swann has been our CEO for just over a month and is changing the club image immediately. Even in the interview saying we have cash to splash is so exciting, regardless if we grab a big fish or not, it shows that we're looking forward and taking the steps to be a powerhouse in the AFL once again.
With the recent signings of our guys and more to come, good performances on field and being more settled off field, it's hard not to be excited really.
Absolutely. Even to a point where Aish looks to be the icing on the cake with Dizzy, McStay, Taylor etc instead of the other way aroundyep definitly more excited now than this time last year. The players we got from the GH5 are going to exceed them imo.
If you had of payed attention last year, the style of footy is relatively similar. We were still doing the run in the middle of the ground last year.Thought I'd just say...
I used to never watch Brisbane. The past two years you've played pretty shit and boring football. However, over the past month its turned completely around. I'm enjoying watching the improvement and development of Aish, McStay, Freeman, etc. It's rather exciting. And so is the way they're playing.
Give this group another year or two and they'll be right in the 8.
Different players. I enjoy watching the new kids. Unlike St Kilda your youth actually have ability. If you had of payed attention last year, the style of footy is relatively similar. We were still doing the run in the middle of the ground last year.
