Another positive is that we are finally (Whilst touching wood he looks around for a ladder or black cat) starting to turn the corner with injuries. Harwood back last week, West back this week, Freeman very close, Hanley running strongly and a chance of an early return, Rocky back with seemingly no after-effects, Goose seemingly tracking OK after concussion. Sure we have lost Close for the season, but very few clubs go a season without at least one of their players suffering an ACL.

Not sure if Hanley is allowed to come back early as we upgraded ZOB for him. I think 8 weeks is minimum for someone being upgraded.

This is so much worth remembering when times are dark. I recall first semi-seriously beginning to follow the Lions about that time and by '99 deciding that I would consider myself a Lions supporter.

It was tough then and it is tough now. But despite how things appear at the present we will climb.

I always think back to the "if it bleeds we can kill it" Essendon game in '01 that really made it all seem possible. We will have a game like that again, perhaps not this year, but we will.

I think our next finals team is 95% at the club already. Our next premiership team is 75% at the club already. We just have to keep the faith.

Mitch Robbo with his best game for the club and Stefan Martin continues to play better as a solo ruckman.

Fitzroy had a strong win against Mazenod in the VAFA. I took my two boys and they had a great day. Weather in Melbourne was beautiful, kids had a kick on the field during the breaks and after the game. Clapped the players off and stood outside the rooms while the boys belted out the Fitzroy song. Having attended the North Melbourne v Brisbane game in Rd.2, it is safe to say that I have seen my last AFL game this year, but will be heading to plenty of VAFA games to watch the MIGHTY ROYS!

Robinson improved his skills to match his aggression.

Andrews going up in a pack 3v1 and brining the ball to ground allowing Beams to have a shot on goal was my highlight of the night.

Here is my weekly praise of Justin Clarke:

He stuffs up, makes mistakes, gets caught out...but he never, ever stops trying his hardest. He is desperate and courageous every time the ball comes his way.

I can watch Clarke and forgive him his errors because there is never any doubt at all that he does absolutely everything he can, to fight and scrap and pressure and defend, often with minimal support. In our dreadful performances this year he is one player I feel can hold his head high. There was one time when he had three opponents at him and somehow he managed to hold them up until, belatedly, help arrived.

He was exhausted and well beaten by Dixon and still desperately spoiling the ball in the fourth quarter as if the game was in the balance.

Still young but already one of our most valuable players. And a player with the attitude we so urgently need right now.

Made even more impressive when you consider he more or less has no support. If he played in a better team he would be given a lot more credit.
