He did seen more mobile ... Was actually able to make second efforts.

Not getting hit by a car in the preseason probably helps.

Maybe the club will do a better job managing his workloads this season. Similar to what Essendon do with Fletcher.

Just watched our first goal again and what beautiful movement there was. Rockliff also made Mitchell look a bit ordinary which was a bonus!

Our skills by hand have improved significantly it seems. Those deft handballs in close to teammates running past were like nothing I'd seen from this group before. Very clean for the most part.

There were some occasions where the ball was in dispute and seemingly out of control (a lot of fumbling and a lot of pressure) and then a panicked tap happening to land in a Lion teammate's hands. It looked like arsey dumb luck but I saw it a couple of times at Burpengary and in the Suns practice match as well. I am now doubting it was just lucky.

I think my prediction for this year was for us to finish around 15th, and despite an impressive effort on the weekend I still think wins are going to be hard to come by against all bar the WOP 3.

But...

Next year, with a year into Aish, Lewy, Close, Robbo. A year with this game plan and a 'bottom third' draw, I see us being comfortably top eight.

I feel that even tho we lost Rocky. It probably is a game that we shouldnt be winning anyway. I feel that they are still ahead of us and when Rocky plays against the gc, then we can start our season for real.
I don't agree. I kind of think that this is a weak perspective to take.

They'll go out for blood this week, but we will unfortunately lack a bit in the skills department on the day.

I think we could've beaten Hawthorn if Brown's sitter went through and we took some of that momentum.

I also think we're a real chance vs the Cats ... we have confidence against them and it's our first home game.

We're close, but we need every player in our best 22 available to turn those close ones into wins ... which is why not having Rockliff is going to suck.

Momentum is everything in games. I wonder all the time about the "what would've happened" scenarios in games, like the Butterfly Effect if Browny had kicked that goal for instance. Alastair Lynch just before halftime in the 2001 GF. You wonder how much confidence boosters can affect a contest.

Obviously we are all pissed about the Rockliff suspension but looking on the bright side of things, it opens up a spot for a youngster like Robertson or Cutler to make their debut with a lot to prove against the Cats. It would be great to see young Nick in particular smashing a few Geelong players who aren't really sure who he is yet.

Why would Cutler play? I havent heard him banging the door down? I would prob think Robbo would be ahead of Cutler

I don't share your view here lionshine.

I think we have too many young guys in the side as it is, so my preference would be to replace Rockliff with Raines or even Polkinghorne.

I agree about Robbo being ahead of Cutler but Leppa is obviously keen to play the kids and I expect Cutler to be one of the players that debut's sometime this year. Whether that is sooner rather than later who knows. He played pretty well in the Nab Cup.

That is fine, you are entitled to your opinion and I can clearly see your reasoning. I just think if we want to improve we need to move past players like Raines and Polkinghorne who probably won't be in our best 22 when we push towards the finals. I do respect both of them as Lions player who have added a lot to the team over the years however and I would not be disappointed if either of them were selected for this weekends game.

Are we actually doing that some time soon?

Edit...of course we are...its the positives thread.o_O

I wouldn't mind if rains replaced rocky as long as he was only allowed to handball to teammates, he must never kick the football unless he is shooting for goal. I do not want polinghorne, he wouldnt offer us anything imo, at least raines would take out selwood.

Sorry if I'm not welcome to post but I really enjoyed the energy that yours boys played with against us. It was a throwback to the Brisbane of old with the intensity and aggression.

Young team with a lot of potential and some bite. Lot to like about your side.

I agree with Dylan, I think we need some more experience in the side. Replacing Rockliff with Cutler/Robbo leaves less experience and mature bodies in our midfield rotation, and I'm worried we'll be pushed around by Geelong's bigger body mids.

If we were to bring in one of those two for their debuts, I'd leave Taylor out of the side and give him a full game in the reserves. Not sure he has the match fitness for a full game at AFL level yet given his interrupted off-season, and I think he needs to play full games.

You are very welcome here mate.

look fact is Launceston is a fortress for the hawks ! no one will beat them here , they know the place back woulds. they are the reining premier not some mid range hopeful , so we did dam well ! yep we collapsed in the last but had we kept up the pressure and not missed scoring chances well who knows !

all in all good first effort we just cannot afford to get pumped by the cats this week , i reckon we are a sneaky chance at home but we gotta play for 100 % of the game and kick straight !

We lost to the Cats at Simmonds stadium, their fortress, and only lost by 1 point. Really the ump killed us for not getting that free when chappy dived on it. We can't use it as an excuse. We didnt vs the strong hawks. 1/3 of their team was very inexperienced. I felt we should have done a lot better.
