Priority pick chance? :drunk:

Assuming we finish last with less than 4 wins and a terrible percentage.

No priority pick: 96%

End of first round priority pick: 3.9%

Start of first round priority pick: 0.1%

What about 1/2 wins and a terrible percentage? ;)

For some strange reason I think we are much higher chance of getting a priority pick (end of first round). With the new boss in charge of the AFL and widespread appreciation amongst the media that the Lions got screwed out of the go home five situation, I think we are a 1/3 chance of getting a priority pick (so long as we don't stage a remarkable form turn around and get more than say 6 wins).

Looking forward to the second half of the season and getting some structures in place for future years:
- Clarke, Gardner and Cutler to further develop in the back six
- Beams & Aish to Patrol the wings
- Paparone & Mayes as HFF
- Close to further develop as CHf
- Green to develop as our best small forward since Lukey spent his time in the forward arc

it is going to be a long year but the talent is there we just need to knock off the rough edge sand get them super fit.

Next year will be much better. We will have Rich and Leuenberger back. Our team will be use to the game plan. Our senior players will have a year of Leppa's game plan under their belt. Leppa will have had a season and an off season to start to shape his team. Leppa will have a year of coaching under his belt. Players like Rich, Rockliff, Redden, Leuenberger, Hanley, and Zorko will start to hit their prime. Players like Green, Beams, Mayes, Clarke, Close, Paparone, Aish, Taylor, Gardiner, Cutler, and Robbo will have another pre season under their belts and this years games under their belts. Our team as a whole will be bigger, stronger, and more experienced. We will have a top 3 KPF from the draft on our list. We will hopefully have a quality CEO and possibly a new chairman. And best of all, we will have our premiership jersey back:thumbsu:

Things can turn around quickly.

I strongly believe the AFL wouldn't just take the W/L and Percentage into the equation for handing out priority picks and the 'Go home five' isn't enough for them either.

They will see our injuries, poor draw luck, younger players, new coach etc...

The PP is for teams that struggle over 2-3 years and are lingering down the bottom for too long, considering we almost made finals last year - we won't get it.

My opinion though. ;)

Oh yeah like the sound of that!!!

Another positive is the second rising star nomination, we'll done Aish and Lewy.

I realised I have accepted the fact that we are going to have a really tough year when we played North. That was probably the least painful "thrashing" I have ever sat through. They usually hurt a lot more than Saturday's game did. I instead found myself acknowledging and enjoying every little positive thing a young player did. It was nice in a weird way.

Well said and I think that Leppa was right in saying that the excitement for fans this season is in being with the team at this point and seeing the careers of the young guys from the very beginning. There is greater satisfaction as a fan to be there at the lowest points and watching the rise to the top, than simply jumping on the bandwagon when the journey to the top is half over. Without the down times, could the great moments ever be so sweet?

Briliant, brilliant article

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-05-22/scott-gives-lions-hope

His words were pointed after five young players left the Lions last season, citing homesickness, forcing the club to usher in seven new draftees.

They have been the one bright spot this season, with James Aish and Lewis Taylor receiving Rising Star nominations, and Darcy Gardiner, Nick Robertson and Tom Cutler all showing enormous promise.

Based on what I've read (I wasn't there) it really seems like a common thread from the inductees' speeches was "stick around for the bad times, stay loyal and you will be rewarded".

Can't be a coincidence after what happened last trade week. Great to see that these guys still care about the direction and success of the club even if their loyalties currently lie elsewhere.

Thought it was all nicely sewn together with Leppa saying that it was a rare opportunity where the past and future of the club intersect. Really hope the kids were letting it soak in.

The Injury Ladder

We are on top of this ladder.

"The Lions top the injury ladder with an average of 703 games' experience missing each week, explaining some of the brutal losses coach Justin Leppitsch has endured in his first season."

The positive is that it can only get better. In the mean time, like the Hall-of-famers said, that hanging together through the tough times make the good times even better.

This season has really been a perfect storm. To come out of it with some talented and substantially more experienced kids is a significant win I think.

James Aish. I was soooo sad we didn't get Scharenberg cause I initially thought Aish would be crap but oh how wrong have I been. Will easily win the rising star at this rate. Such a good player, another pre-season and some more meat on his bones and my god we got our second Brownlow winner. (Rockliff being the 1st)

Footy's back this weekend!

This may turn into a vent Saturday night.

Would take Justin Clarke over Henderson everyday.

No contest.

Yes. Clarke is going to get better and stronger and tougher and more experienced and we will thank the football gods that we have him.

Zac O'brien's game as sub. Really impressive. Can't wait to see his career unfold.

Going to the footy with a prominent Bigfooty member who also happens to be a Carlton supporter and watching them lose. Makes up for the same time and companionship last year. Only slightly mitigated by how devastated his son and my son's mate was at the loss.
