I thought nrobbo in particular did really well today. He is strong enough that he can ride a tackle and doesn't have to rush so much. He's pretty reliable overhead too. I was really pleased to see him do well.

Cutler can seriously move for a kid his size, and clangers aside is a really effective kick.

Finally, I love Paps. I think he gets a little better every week. There is a long way to go, but a fair bit to work with.

My family of four pretty much had section 44 to ourselves this week. Plenty of room to stretch out and watch some good quality sport on my iPad on Foxtel Play.

Not being sarcastic here but I dont get what people see in Paps other than his defensive running, can you explain?

The only real positive for me today was the spray GOD gave he Defence at QTR time, then the spray from Leppa to the whole group straight afterwards, it worked we matched them in the 2nd Qtr.

I think it was more like they matched us. Good spray though.

That is incredible. I did exactly the same things with the exception of number three. For my number three I went to church and sought redemption. Didn't see any one there I knew.

I've been banned from church.

Apparently their insurance policy is void after the third time the roof caves in.

Also, he has shit hair

I was watching Step Martin and his new hairdo does not move at all despite his physical activity during the game. Reminded me a bit of when Australian/Scot Eddie Thomson was a soccer coach in in the J-League (Japan) and he said that his team would be awesome if they could just remember to leave their handbags at home. Wasn't a popular thing to say but it was true.

Well done Nick Robertson - in the top handful on the ground today and did not look out of place at all for his first AFL game for a while.

Hard at it, very quick and a strong mark. His decisions are getting better and that's about all we can ask for out of him at this early stage. He deserves a few games on the trot at least to see how he develops.

I will admit that I had Nick Robbo down as an all effort hard nut last year and wasn't sure if he had the skills. Today he was very good and obviously has more to offer.
100% DE!

He makes mistakes, but he's not alone in that regard. Watch him closely and you might see why he's worth persisting with.

He's still only 20 and learning the game. Has played forward, wing and now a floating backman role. When he's in the 23 - 27 bracket, Paps will be a 195cm / 90+ kg endurance machine that will be able to play multiple positions during a game - very useful and hard to match up on.

After 4 rounds: averaging 18 possessions and 5 marks a game - he's going OK in my opinion :thumbsu:

He took quite a few intercept marks and used the ball well despite a couple of turnovers. One of the few players showing week to week improvement at the moment.

I agree he needs time, but that sounds an awful lot like Staker to me.

Really starting to back himself more in marking situations now.

Also showed some decent defensive efforts today, reckon he may actually have potential as a third tall defender with further improvement.

There are no guarantees he will make it, but like you said, you can clearly see why they are persisting. He is a very interesting package.

Other than the points covered by others above (improved defensive marking and involvement):

- I think he actually has deceptively good hands in close. I noticed him handballing into trouble substantially less than a few of his more experienced teammates.

- He is still prone to a poor kick every now and then, but each week he seems to pick out one or two more of the right options, and his kick (while not 'natural') has definitely flattened out a fair bit.

- His defensive spoiling is improving, which I get the feeling is down to a better feel for the timing of it

- I also think he's stronger than he looks. He held up okay in body contact.

Bearing in mind he has been playing a defensively focused role, if you bring Merrett back in to go with Clarke and Gardiner, he probably has a lot more freedom to float in as a third man and use his running offensively. There is definitely still a fair way for him to go, but this year so far he is probably the one guy who I think has improved a little pretty much every week.
