I said this during a pre-season game:

Bewick and Lester epitomise the last 5 or so years at the club. Flashes of promise but ultimately just not playing at the required level often enough. That's gotta change.

Very pleased that these two guys appear to have developed some consistency in their games. It might be the role they've been asked to play but I reckon the penny has dropped in terms of the little things required to keep yourself involved, even when the ball isn't going your way. Neither of them is racking up big numbers but both are turning into the type of reliable foot soldiers that every side needs.

Would love to see Lester's "contest" stats this year (%age of contests won/drawn/lost). I'm struggling to think of many contested situations that he either hasn't won or drawn.

The Gabba is becoming a tough place to come for opposition teams again.

We have won 3 of the last 5 here and the 2 losses are against North and of course Sydney, who are top tier.

Last 5 Home Games

2015
W vs Carlton (64 points)
W vs WB (8 points)

2016
L vs North (34 points)
W vs GC (13 points)
L vs Swans (3 points)

I think if we keep improving at this rate we should be pushing for Finals next season.

Who would have thought we would be up and about after a 1-5 start?
Great post.

Not only are we 1-5 but we have had a solid chance at being 2-4 against premier teams and if we had of kicked straighter been 3-3. Which would be absolutly awesome. Im not one for what ifs and maybes but we have given 2016 a solid start and if we can snag 3 wins out of the next 6 rounds ill be absolutly stoked.

Agree. ..next two or three weeks will need to demonstrate consistent effort though...we have a big chance to go forward from here.

When the draw came out I wasn't as frustrated as some. We will benefit enormously for the rest of the year knowing we can match it with the best teams in the comp and it has only been our finishing skills in front of goals that have cost us a couple of more wins. The side would be full of confidence now and primed for some games ahead that are very winnable. My only concern is they bring the same effort week in week out no matter who we play. Can't afford to get ahead of ourselves for a second or it will cost us. Watching yesterday was the first time in a while where I was very confident in the way we are going as a team. Doesn't matter how talented you are, if we can bring effort like that every week we will win a fair few games this year. Nothing better then seeing the Swans rush their possessions yesterday knowing as soon as they got the ball they were about to be tackled. Thats what the good teams do and we showed yesterday we can be in that bracket if we bring that intensity to every contest.

I think it's the first time in years I've been excited about the potential ins. And wondering who will be omitted.
Jansen hasn't played yet. Neither has Mathieson. DBeams will come back this week... and Paparone and Green are going to have to fight their way back in. It's good.
And this front-loaded draft is actually not bad... we've got three eminently winnable games coming up - Port/Pies/Dees. AND Carlton, Freo, and Richmond all before the bye. We could be 7-7 at round 15!
Getting ahead of myself, obviously.

Just a touch. Our biggest issue will be turning up to play week in week out. 7 and 7 is a stretch. Id be stoked with 5 and 9. However would be bitterly dissapointed at 3 and 11.

We have an exciting chance over the next two months to consolidate some good performances. Hope it happens.

Youngest team in the league still. Still more likely to drop a game against a rabble than beat a more fancied opponent.

Don't get me wrong, I am heartened by our improvement but we are a way off replicating our best on a weekly basis, and we still struggle badly on the road.

Would be a shame to see people abandon all hope and disregard all gains made when we inevitably drop one we expect to win in the next phase of the draw.

I think it's Eons - he was the first one to suggest someone else?

Yeah, I officially point the finger at Eons under the "Whoever Smelt It, Dealt It" tort.

#1 has been a bit of a bogey number for us over the years.

Headland had it and we all know what happened there.

Then there was McGuane, who looked like he wanted to contribute but in the end had to give up because of his dodgy knee(s)

i have to go back to Richard Champion before I can think of anyone who really did the number proud.

Have I forgotten someone???

PS.

Oh yeah, I really liked the look of young Keays, particularly the way he went back and calmly slotted that goal, at a time where he probably could have been forgiven if nerves got the better of him.

Didn't Blakey Caracella wear #1 in a premiership?

This is going to turn into our version of Watergate's Deep Throat. At least I hope so.

(Follow the clues people. It is clearly TBD. The sheer brilliance of trolling his own comment as Lethal. Who would suspect.)
