Speedy is one of the best. Does 3 sporting codes.

Yeah, spent the first chunk of the match wondering who he was, actual decent commentary instead of group masturbation. If only there could be more like him!

Was a pleasant change not having to listen to commentators actively barracking for one of the sides. Or talking up how "exciting" team A is going to be at some undefined point in the futurre.

Maybe the absence of Vic team had something to do with it too.

I quite like Paul Roos' commentating. I'd much prefer the less colourful analytical commentators compared to buffoons like BT and Basil.

He is very informative and looks at the game with a coaches philosophy.
Certainly less colourful.

Really like the way the back line is starting to settle. Andrews & Gardiner working well together. Great to see Rich slot back in and have an impact in what was really his 1st game for the year. Benefit of Hodge starting to have an impact.

And the fact that they didn't seem to miss a beat with Hodge not playing answers a big doubt pretty emphatically. They may not always play well but that game should give the club confidence that the back line is almost sorted and they can focus on midfielders and forwards through the coming drafts and trades.

I think we will look back on this season with fondness. We develop a heap of good young players while playing competitively and also get pick 1 or 2 and 19 or 20 in the super draft. Nail our picks this year and happy days. Listening to Hugh, Berry, Witho etc they know that the future of the club is with the young ones and I get the sense they are having a major influence in setting the culture. There will come a point in the not too distant future that the older players become peripheral.

It could well be that Hodge has had a considerable impact on this group already...at least I would like to think so!

Although it's been very frustrating as a Lions supporter for the last 10 years, it's been even more so this year because there have been 5 games we could have won. We are on the up, as frustrating as it is you can see where we are heading and it won't be too long before it all clicks and we are winning more games than we lose.

I’m expecting 19 or 20 to get pushed back by up to 5 spots after compo picks are handed out at the end of the trade period.

Really?

Ate there so many Free Agents around of quality to soak up so many spots?
Lynch, Sloan, McGovern all possible first round compo.
Priority picks for Carlton and Brisbane?

I'm not sure who is quality, and who is not. Who is worth a higher contract than Tom Rockliff.

And also F/S, academy and NGA picks ......
I don't worry about those picks. We went through all this 2 years ago. Easiest thing to do is ignore these kids, as you know regardless (for the top prospects any way) of where they get bid on, they are going to get matched. What we do need to keep an eye where they bid in relation to that teams pick/s.

For example, last year we hoped that Ballenden would not be bid on until after our first and second round picks. The kids to look out for this year are the first round prospects, Taryn Thomas and Nick Blakey, and if they are bid on before those teams first round pick.

And also F/S, academy and NGA picks ......

Some will slide, some will get matched with picks in between where they're taken and our pick so there's no actual movement, etc... swings and roundabouts with those.

Not sure how you can say this:

when you don't know this:

I'm not sure who is quality, and who is not.

I don't think you can "expect" anything with respect to the draft and trades period, at this point in time.

Fair call.

I readily admit I don't know enough about other teams to list all the genuine quality players. Main reason why I stay out of much of trade/free agency discussions.

But I can put together a list of 4 to 6 players from the Restricted Free Agent list who I believe would receive high enough offers from opposition teams. Not sure any of them will actually leave.

Rory Sloane (Adelaide)
Tom Lynch (Gold Coast)
Tom McDonald (Melbourne)
Andrew Gaff (West Coast)
Jeremy McGovern (West Coast)
maybe Cam Guthrie (Geelong) as well.

Part of my hope was that luthor, or some one else would put together a list of who they felt would probably receive an offer that would draw a first round compo pick, particularly from the Unrestricted Free Agent list.
