I agree, and I suspect (don't know for certain) that a fair bit of credit needs to go to the club as well. I don't know whether they approached Seven to do something special for a FTA game but gut feel is yes, because having that degree of access (player and runner miked up, in-game interviews with players and coaches) requires a massive amount of coordination and we wouldn't be the obvious choice to approach (in fact we'd probably be close to last).

Credit probably goes to Anthony Alsop on that - head of the comms team since mid-last year and was at Seven beforehand.

The age demographics of the current team is pretty good, 14 players are less than 23 whilst the remaining 8 are 27 or older. Good signs.

Bailey 18
Rayner 18
McCluggage 19
Berry 19
Witherden 19
Hipwood 20
Andrews 21
Cutler 22
Gardiner 22
Taylor 22
McStay 22
Robertson 22
Cameron 23
McInerny 23

Rich 27
Christensen 27
Beams 28
Eagles 28
Robinson 28
Zorko 29
Martin 31
Hodge 33

Apart from Martin and Hodge the others should have at least another 3 good years in them.

Bailey is the standout player we drafter last year imo. Rayner was always going to be good because he is a pick 1 but Bailey is pick 15 and gonna turn into a gun mid imo. Looks like he always wants to run with the ball every time he gets it which is fantastic. The ability to burst out of stoppages while also taking the game on is like Danger/Treloar etc. You can just see how high a ceiling he has as has McCluggage. Bloody hell, McCluggage is gonna be a serious star of the competition, only in his 2nd year and doing really well. Just holds it that extra second like Pendlebury.

Hippy looked fantastic with a few extra marking targets up front to release a bit of pressure. 7 shots on goal.
Clarko's message to Gil to look for the holding has backfired on him badly as Hippy and McInerny got quite a few holds.
Looking forward to see Eagles towel up Franklin

Another negative could be how the hell are we going to fit all these stars under the salary cap in a few years.
Pay them overs now. It has been speculated that their 2 year extensions will be in the $400k+ region, and that they are being paid more on potential rather than actual performance.

I have a strong feeling that the crowds will be back as soon as we start a season well. It's quite amazing how many people you talk to who don't want to be seen dead at the GABBA right now because the lions are loosing, but the minute we win a game they all instantly know about it and are talking about it. I think the bandwagon support is there and all we need is the wins now...

I know getting the band-wagoners is great for $ and atmosphere, and I'd love to have so many members that opposition supports are locked out but I still think it's far more rewarding when you've done the hard yards and been there for the losses.

This year I've already had more people than ever ask me for tickets to games. After we beat the Hawks I've had three mates want to come and see us play the Swans.

I remember after round 3 absolutely tearing my hair out at the fact Harris Andrews and other defenders played so loose and allowed goal after goal unopposed. We hypothesized that it was the midfield fault and from turnover and a systemic issue that was out of control. I maintained that you should be able to at least mark your opponent, even if that is your sole focus - 80% of the time. They highlighted on the couch how loose Harris was playing early in the season and then showed him the last few weeks and he is finally 'back and shoulder'almost all of the time. So thrilled that an obvious adjustment was made and the rewards have been reeped. I didn't know where he was at early on and now he looks like AA. The whole Attacking defense thing is very cool ATM but not sure our young back line was ready to start playing 30 feet ahead of their opponent like Rance does.

Look at that 4 year gap int he middle there. Going to take a few more years to push that out.
