In hindsight it's hard to believe there were people on this board defending Leppa in 2016
Pretty sure a lot of us were, until we weren’t.

In 2016, we had suffered 8 48+ point losses by round 12.

In 2017, we had suffered 5 40+ losses by round 12.

In 2018, we have suffered 2 40+ point losses by round 12.

That is quite staggering.
One to the reigning premiers and top ranked team and the other to a team travelling very well.

Hugh McCluggage, Cam Rayner, Jarrod Berry, Alex Witherden, Daniel McStay, Darcy Gardner, Eric Hipwood Tom Cutler, Oscar McInerney. + Harris Andrews.

We are going to need a bigger bandwagon in years to come people.

The age demographics of the current team is pretty good, 14 players are less than 23 whilst the remaining 8 are 27 or older. Good signs.

Bailey 18
Rayner 18
McCluggage 19
Berry 19
Witherden 19
Hipwood 20
Andrews 21
Cutler 22
Gardiner 22
Taylor 22
McStay 22
Robertson 22
Cameron 23
McInerny 23

Rich 27
Christensen 27
Beams 28
Eagles 28
Robinson 28
Zorko 29
Martin 31
Hodge 33

Apart from Martin and Hodge the others should have at least another 3 good years in them.

Get 5 years out of Martin by giving him the adelaide and perth games off and a few more a year. Get Smith and O'Mac some games together otherwise we will have a ruck problem once Martin goes.

Dan McStay. Obviously not at the same level (yet) but plays in a similar style to Jack Riewoldt and I think most are starting to see his defensive side improving and plays a selfless role with Hipwood the focal point inside 50.

How good was it to see Hipwood leading at the ball carrier aggressively. Obviously early days, but it's very promising to see he's using his abilities to good use.

Now he runs so hard his accuracy has dropped off. :p
I think this year is somewhat of a catch up year for Hippy. He grew something like 4 cms during the off-season of 16-17 and I reckon we are seeing the effects of that this year with his timing in his kicking. He will catch up with another off season coming up and another hard training block his body and timing will catch up and he will be on song and kick 45 to 50 goals next year.

Bundy extended for another year. Smart move - let him earn a big contract after a year or so back in the game.

I love Bundy. But there are 2 serious areas he lacks in.

1 - He never has any time in congestion, just one of those blokes who gets gang tackled the moment he scoops the ball. You'll never see him stepping through traffic like Beams and Zorko.

2 - He lacks serious penetration on his kicks, rarely makes the distance from anywhere outside 30 meters unless its a set shot.

He does crack in hard though, no wonder he kept breaking his collar bone, might be some technique issues there because i swear at least twice a game there's an instance where you think he has done it again lol.

He's also one of our best (along with Charlie, maybe) in terms of positioning front-and-square at the feet of the talls, which is something we've struggled with for years.

Haven't noticed it as a stand out strength of his, but I will take note. it is an area we have lacked in big time. His best work has actually been as a link up and run player through the corridor this year IMO. He is starting to put together some decent form of late, we were way too quick to jump on him earlier in the season given he was working his way back.

Rayner is very good at this also.
