The outlook is still almost entirely positive to me, really. All the fundamentals of the club are better than they have ever been - the board, the executive, the finances, the future of the facilities, even the long-running difficulties with the Academy sound like they have started to turn a corner since Littlejohn has taken over as Head Coach.

Add to that some very high-end talent 25 or under and a few more on the way this year on that front, and I think there's a very strong case that the best days of this particular run are still well and truly ahead of us.

I'm still quite sure Fagan is the guy to get us there personally. But whether that ends up being true or not, I can't really see our window shutting in any major way any time soon.

Yeah long term I'm fairly confident in the club, especially with Ashcroft and Fletcher set to join and Neale staying.

This year feels close to over for us, but think this loss could be the catalyst for change in our midfield. It could be the making of someone like Dev Robertson who is knocking the door down. If Dev can come in and play the role we need him to, it could be the tweak we need going into finals.

This years Grand Final will be epic....I wouldn't miss it regardless of who is playing.

We bought $100 flights for the weekend about a month ago. Will be experiencing grand final weekend in Melbourne no matter who make the GF.

Not sure about spending a fortune on tickets if not the lions. Probably wouldn't be able to get them anyway.

This is what I find the most upsetting. Look at a team at Collingwood, certainly on paper, our team looks much more accomplished, yet they are winning all of these close games and by rights should be nowhere near where they are. Is that the coaching, do they have more heart, stronger mentally. On one hand i take comfort that we appear to have a good basis that albeit needs changes yet is that enough. What has the Collingwood coaches done that we could to get our players to show fight and not roll over?

I wouldn't use Collingwood as a great example. Working our way back the teams that they're barely getting over the line against are:

• 12th
• 14th
• 15th
• 18th
• 11th
• 16th
• Melbourne in their losing streak
• 13th
• And then finally a couple of decent wins against 6th and 7th.

I'm not saying I wouldn't rather be in their position but I'd take a step back before trying to draw conclusions from them. I'd rather focus on actually good teams like Melbourne or Geelong.

I think they'll struggle in finals, but I made sure I went all the way back to Carlton and Fremantle when they were the toast of the competition for a reason.

Well they've won 10 in a row. Of all the teams that have ever won 10 in a row they're the worst on paper.

So you'd think they'll lose one soon . To their advantage is that they've well and truly overachieved and don't have the usual weight of expectation on the Pies , so they'll be playing with a lot of mental freedom.

You may have missed it but we're not doing too well. I even said I'd rather be in their position right now - they're banking wins! We aren't so much.

The positive is that as bad as yesterday was, the season is still very much alive for us to have one last crack.

Without saying it was the loss we had to have, it's still a loss that hopefully opens a few eyes at the club that we need to work on a lot more than just skills. It's clear that we cannot handle pressure and that mentally we're fragile, both fixable.

Last year the Dogs lost to Essendon, Hawthorn AND Port Adelaide to choke a Top 4 spot in the final 3 weeks. They then won the EF/SF/PF and were up at HT in the GF before succumbing to the Demons onslaught.

Good opportunity for us to still finish Top 4, we have to adjust mentally and develop a killer attitude. Right now it's all fun & games at the Lions, time to get serious.

Someone asked during the week something along the lines of 'we used to have a running side - has anyone seen them / where did they go?'

Well we saw running and overlap and corridor play and proactivity and rapid decision making for the first half of the last game - so the positive is that we know we can still do it (and as an added positive we know a bit more about who can't handle it when pressure comes and have put their hands up for a replacement)
