The weekly positives thread.

I'm a bit knackered and a bit flat so I'll add my two cents later on.

Like last week in the positive thread I say Wilson has shown signs that he will be our future forward.

Weakness: Stanima/fitness like last week.

Shuey breaks tackles very well. Geelong are probably the biggest bodied team in the league and on numerous occasions he broke through the grip of players despite appearing to be gawwwwn.

Strijk, Ham, Wilson (all supprises), Shuey skill and core strength to bresk tackles, Koby, Shep when back.

NN named best bigh man on the ground.

Watters up and running.

S Selwood.

Team playing for the coach.

Squared up the clearances against one of, if not the best midfield in the competition.. With no Priddis or A Selwood.

i havent seen the team play for a good few weeks, so i was actually pleasantly surprised by the endeavour today and that looks to be the nucleus of our future team-those youngsters all accounted for themselves well against a bigger, harder outfit-the best in the comp.
shueys tenacity and kicking..
smith,stevens,ham,strijks..
schoey,emac,wilson..
hurn,nicnat,cox,
even masten looked more switched on..
overall their run+carry has improved,as has their kicking disposal-sure,its not great, but noticibly better than before..

still handballing to flatfooted teamsters in similar predicaments, but getting better..
still not backing themselves around the 50m arc,and choosing to just give the ball off, when several times they couldve/shouldve struck home, taken the punt to the goalsquare..always turned over at 50m and straight back down to cats zone..
yeh, callum wilson looks the goods for a forward..
it looks healthy for next season, with the inclusion of kerr,glass+co..we should win more games, and finish more respectably on the ladder..
re woodenspoon-so what..we now get a couple of good (enough) picks,a bit more talent/depth for next season..:thumbsu:

1: Season's Over
2: We don't have to listen to Worsfold's bullshit until the draft
3: Luke Shuey, Scott Selwood, Callum Wilson, , Koby Stevens, Eric Mackenzie, Matt Spangher and Will Schofield had very strong finishes to the year and with a full pre-season behind them they will become better players in 2011.

1) We could have disgraced ourselves today, but instead put up a pretty above average effort.
2) Shuey and Scooter to break out next year. Hopefully with Scooter having a more offensive role.
3) Now that the last game's completed and we officially have the spoon, I have a sense of the slate being wiped clean. We won the spoon in 2010, but we're focusing on drafts/contracts/trading/preseason with 2011 in mind.

i was going to say that since we finished 16th this year, the only way is up. But now that the Gold Coast team is about to enter in 2011, we could actually go backwards to 17th :p

I thought this thread would be more ... well ... positive!

Kids (mostly) really stood up today - Shuey in particular looks like being an absolute gun.

I am really optimistic about next season ... in fact with a good run with injuries we could challenge the lower reaches of the 8.

Theoretically from today's side imagine swapping:
Masten to Kerr
Ebert or Stevens to Priddis
McGinnity to A.Selwood
J.Jones to Butler
Spangher or Schofield to Glass
Smith to Shephard

Those changes alone would give us some much needed experience and make us a 5 goal better side ... and that to a side that although not winning has been pretty competitive over the last couple of months (bar the Freo game)

Will Schofield finished the season with the most 1%ers in the league. Grasping at straws a bit but it's hard to find many positives.

Positives.
Pretty much anybody younger than 23 did well. very well. shuey, mckenzie Schofield, selwood, sheppard, smith etc.

Great surprises from the rookies strijk, hams, stevenson, wilson

Only young kids who concerned me this year were masten, swift, brown, Houlihan
All looked great last year and had very high hopes for all but had pretty poor years really. At the end of last year if you told me that those 4 wouldnt be able/deserve to make it into the spoon winning team i sure as hell wouldn't of believed you.
also Ebert good but at the same time terrible?

But biggest plus of all pick 4 (Atley) im calling it early we now have a gun pacey outside mid.

biggest positive for me is that i went o/s after round 11 and didn't see the disastrous back half of the year except for Carlton and North games.
