Ethan Hughes.

Must admit I totally wrote him off 10 weeks ago, he's turning into a really high quality footballer.

It's an old argument, but athlete > footballer is making a strong case again. We have some amazing athletes (Logue, Hughes, B.Hill) and some clever footballers (Neale) and some gods with both attributes (Fyfe).

Thought Danyle Pearce, Hayden Ballantyne, Nicholas Suban and Cameron Sutcliffe looked really good today. We need on field leaders like this to drive the development of our kids. Looking forward to all of them playing on next year!

It is impossible to say anything positive about yesterday, but I wanted to say a few things about the season just for some balance.

I am sure that it was mentioned in the media somewhere that (before yesterday) our transition from defensive 50 to forward 50 was statistically some of the best going around over the last few weeks. By comparison with where we've been over the last 2 years this is very good.

Brennan Cox had a shocker yesterday but by comparison with other first year forwards he is going OK.

More disposals, effective disposals and marks than Josh Schache in his first year. Slightly less contested marks - 1 vs 1.2

More disposals, effective disposals, marks and contested marks than Charlie Curnow in his first year.

More disposals, effective disposals, marks and contested marks than Eric Hipwood in his first year.

More disposals, effective disposals, same number of marks, less contested marks (1 vs 1.2) than Mitch McGovern in his first year when Mitch was 3 years older than Brennan.

IMHO Ethan Hughes and Griffen Logue stood up quite well yesterday in an awful situation.

The mid field were hammered yesterday, but without Sonson and Connor (I know Connor has been playing back but I, for one, think his future is in the midfield), Mundy on one leg, Neale apparently sore, there are some reasons.

I am concerned about why we are having these matches where we just don't bring the right intensity. I am concerned that we will never get an effective approach to forward 50 entries and play.

But there are positives out of the season

Thanks for quantifying it, apart from his set shot kicking his game projects quite well for a first year CHF

Positive freo-linked story.. not sure where to share it

I was given freo number plates years ago as a bday present.. sold the car and didn't realise at the time to transfer the plates - too young and naive.

Was re-united with them this week - they'd been sitting in a licensing centre for around 10 years, only by chance after I asked about them whilst in there for another issue. Super happy!

Love the old freo sign!

Congrats on getting them back! I'd love to get Freo plates on the car, but the VIC ones are all standard sizes that don't fit on the new car :(

Positive: Bennell got through unscathed and kicked 2 goals.
So much this! Even if he was on limited game time. It's taken a lot to get him on the park, and the sport'll be better for it if he can continue getting out there.

Hopefully we can pick up some talented players in the draft/trade period, a good tall goal-kicking forward would be great with pick 5. I remember seeing Chris Judd on Footy Classified and he remarked that Freo would be better off finishing lower this year so they can top up with some good talent rather than rebounding straight back. We now have the opportunity to do that, the ball is in Brad Lloyd's court.

Spoken like a bloke who was captain of a team that's been shit for 15 years.

Remember that time when GWS and the Gold Coast were getting belted by 100 points. I know they have more elite talents but I am still holding on to the belief that our rebuild is still on schedule.

Wow the media are really getting in a lather about our last 2 beatings by top 4 teams. Its been a long season for a side with so many new faces and players with under 20 games. To come in to this team we have Pearce, Neale, Blakely, 211, Walters, Landon and maybe Apness Collins Zarke (who knows whats going on there). This means Jonno, Sutty, Suban can all step down and maybe Mundy as well. I count at least 20 players who were rarely sighted in our first 22 even 2 years ago and this season will hold them on good stead.

Pearce - 22 y/o with less then 25 games under his belt that hasn't played in 2 seasons.
Neale - gun.
Walters - gun.
211 - 35 y/o ruckman that has played 15 games in 2 seasons.
Blakley - gun.
Langdon - 50/50 how he turns out, borderline best 22 as it sits.
Ape - 22 y/o with less then 10 games under his belt and has had about 5 knee ops.
Collins - a 30-35 list depth filler.
Zarke - 27 y/o fringe 2nd ruckman that hasn't played in a year and hasn't been fit in 4 years.

So from your list we literally have 3 guys that we know can step in and have a consistent week to week effect in the result of our games. Hardly awe inspiring.
