I'm seriously not bothered or worried about today's result. It had to happen and there's a reason why Ross said "Stick with us". He knows.

It's Round 1 and people are going ballistic. I'm just glad to be watching footy again and I know next week is going to make today a thing of the past.

Cam looked a lot fitter and seemed more intense.
Sandi is bae.
Matera was pretty great but I think hes a battler more than a game changer.
I wasnt sure if Johnson would go around again or not before the game. Now we all know.
Tabs is the new Glen Jakovich, he even has that dumb head like jako did.

Some of our best players were putrid today. We know they are better than that.
Brayshaw was a good debut.
Tabs worked very hard and was solid.
Matera was one of our best in his first game for the club.

Like a rocket surgeon?

I thought Tabs played well and competed all day both forward and back. He will have a good year if left forward.

I wasn't expecting to win but hoped for a better ball movement system, though Port will do the same to a number of other teams in Adelaide.

Our first game at Optus next week and hopefully some more debuts.

Me either. The benefit of having rightly tempered expectations is posting in this thread rather than the melt after that game.

Port are at the very least a flat track bully (and like it or not we are exactly the sort of team they flog) and possibly a contender (I doubt it but possible). We have definitely improved on last year. It will be more obvious when we play teams around us or just above us on the ladder.

Andy got a look and showed some top notch composure. Bailey was involved especially early when the team was up and about and the ball actually went forward.

Add to that Peel belted the bejesus out of EP with big Dix booting 6 goals.

Actually thought we showed signs of very exciting ball movement. Some moves of pure artistry out of defence just with the last kick going all 2016 on them. Play that game over again and we could have been 6 up at HT.

Midfield got spanked inside after halftime and the defensive organisation was poor at times. I'm weirdly encouraged though.
Also still remain convinced we are building a special list.

Definitely improved ball movement out of defense for sure.

Can’t wait until next week and watching the boys in the new stadium

I’ll be even more happier if we swap out sutty for Cerra and maybe Ape for Kersten

Mccarthy was chasing as hard as any of the small forwards. Both him and Tabs looked good. I thought in the third tabs laid a hit and came to a realisation that he is a big bloke and can hurt people.

If you can break even in the first half of this year you have an easy second half and should play finals. IMO.

"No opposition supporters" - are you outing yourself?

Firstly, thank goodness for the positivity thread. The first quarter was hard-fought and no matter how often we tried, we mostly couldn't get the ball through the posts.

Matera, Neale, McCarthy, Sandi, Langdon worked hard. Fyfe was continually double-teamed. A Pearce, Banfield and Andy were all blooded in front of a huge crowd that were both loud and nasty. We could maybe learn from that!

But best of all, footy is back and so much to look forward to next week at Optus Stadium. Just can't wait.

By the way, Port played great footy, and I predict that they will be a top four team this year!
