I watched him on telly for Peel a few weeks ago and I thought he looked cooked. Was surprised how dynamic he was on the weekend. Competed okay in the ruck (well beaten obviously, but Grundy is behind only NN and Sandi atm as the best in the comp so no disgrace). He really looked like an AFL ruckman* until he got tired.

*In the sort of Mumford way: Not tall enough to win a purity of taps (but strong enough to blunt the other ruckmans ability to hit to advantage), but really able to put pressure on and influence the contest once the tap is won or lost.
Will be good to see how he goes with Sandi this week. Big Jacobs is clearly not 100% and is fairly slow even for ruckman standards.

+'ve - Fyfe has looked tired in the last couple of weeks. Carrying 15-20 other players will do that to you.

He'll be better for the rest. Let's be honest, unless he lost a leg, he was always going to tell the medico's he was right to play.
Yep, rest up, smash Carlton, another rest with the bye and then get ready for the second half of the season.

Has he really played long and well enough to get fans ?
Apeness?

Yeah, I'm a fan. I've seen 8-10 of his Peel games - including all of the 2016 Finals series. He has the tools to be pretty good. He's big, can take a grab, can kick well, had a decent tank and has a little bit of a nasty streak that most of the great forwards have.

Just needs a good run with injuries.

Next two are winnable and will put us at 7/7 with 8 games to come . Win 5 of those and 12 wins just might be enough to sneak into finals.:D;)

Certainly the easier half of our draw and we have talls on the park now + Tabs to be coming back, makes us better structured.

But crikey! 5 wins and into the finals is cheeky as it's so unlikely - I wouldn't bet a single a dollar on it. Nonetheless - I'm up for it if they do it :)

5 of the last 8 are at home with 3 of the last 4 at home. :) Dare to dream eh.

Finals ??Well more likely than a power ball win :) just super happy with the Cox and Cerra show yesterday , And a player who i have maligned a little in Apeness showing something in the last two weeks , Small steps .

Brisbane and Carlton, I'm arrogant enough to think that we don't even need to dream those games (I'm presuming Sandi is available for Carlton). But I think we can knock off at least one of Port, Hawthorn or Collingwood at home and Melbourne at TIO stadium might pull a bit of wind out of their sail.

I'm particularly anti-AFL as they're corrupt. So, I'd love us to hit the 8, not for us as such (would enjoy it though, don't get me wrong), but more to shove it up AFL house. They gave this team that finished 14th, 4 repeat games against last years top 8 and only 1 team that didn't (Gold Coast). They changed the fixturing a few years ago so that top teams play more repeats against top teams and cellar dwellers play more repeats against cellar dwellars - or something like that, so what the hell happened there?

Anyway, stuff them, I dare to dream that we give the AFL the 2 fingered salute :smilingimp:

Honestly finals would be great, but I think in the best case scenario we will still be short.

Carlton usually play 3 good quarters, it could be all they need to make it a close game. They're also coming off a bye, but I'm hoping Fyfe / Sandilands in and our improvement away from home in the Collingwood game would be enough to seal this one. Brisbane we should hopefully be beating them at home, but again their game-plan could punish us if we don't make the best of our opportunities (Last years belting should be a reminder of this). 1-1 would be a pass but would make the potential run home harder even with ideal players returning. A Walters redemption should be the difference in this.

7 - 7

If we have the Hill Bros + Darcy in and playing during the next month, best case scenario we should be hoping for is 2-2. I think both the home games against Port / Hawks will be the ones we could take, although if we go 1-3 I think it'll be against Hawks.

9 - 9

Last month. Again, I think the best case scenario would be beating Carlton at home and causing an upset, but I seriously don't see it happening. We will probably go 1-3, which I'm fine with.

10 - 12 or if we're feeling generous then 11-11

Who we can field will play a big difference in the 2 last months, although I think given our injury run this year and the amount of youth exposure - even a 8-9 win year despite it only breaking even from 2017 would still be a big win.

 Our repeats are against Port (5th), Bombers (7th), WC (8th), Pies (13th), and Carlton (16th). We only play GC once as an extra home game

The teams just above us atm have some tough games ahead in the coming rounds...

9. GWS - bye, Brisbane (away), Hawthorn (home)
10. Adelaide - Hawthorn (away), bye, West Coast (home)
11. Hawthorn - Adelaide (home), Gold Coast (home), GWS (away)
12. Essendon - bye, West Coast (away), North (home)
13. Fremantle - Carlton (away), bye, Brisbane (home)

The good news is Essendon unlikely to win their next two games, and the three teams above them play each other. Adelaide might lose both its next two games. So if we don't screw up the next two games we could should be sitting in 11th and gaining more confidence and starting to get some quality players back. But then we have a stretch of 5 pretty tough games (Melbourne (away), Port, Essendon (away), Hawks, West Coast (away)) - Essendon the only game we'd go in to being given a good chance.

Can't really see us making finals but this is the positivity thread and it's a possibility we do.

Sooooooo getting ahead of ourselves.

I think the next two are definitely winnable - need to apply the same pressure we did last week, players need to not retreat back into their shells just because Fyfe’s back.

If we could string a few good performances I’ll come back here with the same gusto.

Kiddies, the lesson for the day. Don't operate the internet when you are over 0.05 - I did stuff that up :) Still playing 3 of last years finalists when the AFL specifically changed the fixturing so that finalists mainly repeat against finalists and cellar dwellars mainly against cellar dwellars.

Anyways, positivity thread, thinking positive thoughts... A change in structure with some functioning tall forwards finally! If Cox strings some more of that performance together and Apeness slowly steps up to the plate after the long time he's had off - we are going to structure up better and compete better for the last half of the year. Add in a potential return of Tabs :)
