I guess the reasoning is right now there is no queue, whereas if we wait and are doing as well as we expect, we will have up to 17 clubs picking ahead of us, thinning the field.

that’s fair.

The question, and challenge really, is have we seen enough of a young kid to make that call now? The remaining players out there got overlooked in the draft, maybe they didn’t get a go, maybe they’ll be better this year, maybe they were not AFL standard. No extra footy has been played since the draft. We probably aren’t any better placed now than we were several months ago at the draft.

We may miss out on a jet, but probably unlikely. What we might be able to do is find out we are short ‘x’ and get that player in.

PRE-SEASON or mid-season?

It is the question more than half of the AFL's clubs are weighing up ahead of the deadline for signing players in the Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period.

With 11 clubs having had potential recruits train with them across the pre-season, the options are open before the March 9 cut off.

If we have someone in mind pull the trigger Adelaide will have 3 or 4 spots open other teams also getting alot of injuries .
If we get a injury will potentially have another spot open up anyway.

Maybe we are waiting to see how Edwards, Wiederman or Surman hold up in a Semi professional environment and if they can handle the increased workload?

Probably M8 either that or Young Vic boys who went undrafted.

Port were very interested but weren't willing to commit until he'd strung some games together.

'Weren't willing to commit'

It's the last spot on the rookie list FFS.

Goldsack allowed us to get another coaching spot. His run down last week shows what he is worth in leadership for the Maggie's. Some kids who were overlooked last year due to lack of opportunity will stand up before the mid season draft.

I thought Goldsack was fine. Realistically the bottom 10 on your list aren't going to have a big impact on whether Port wins a flag. Another useful coach would probably help more. I still hope we somehow jag a rough diamond in the mid season draft, but most of the players picked up so far have been for depth and list balance.
