Stephen Kearney conceded the Warriors didn't bring their best game to the Preliminary Final against the Panthers on Saturday night.

The Warriors lost 27-12 at ANZ Stadium, failing to score after being up 12-2 early in the first half.

While the Panthers played well and certainly considerably better than they did when losing 36-10 at Mt Smart Stadium a fortnight ago, the Warriors struggled to get their attack going again after losing momentum.

It is a shame we have had to wait seven long years for James Tedesco to finally play finals football. It would have been an even greater shame had Latrell Mitchell been denied September action.

The Sydney Roosters excitement machines played a big role in the 21-12 triumph over a spirited Cronulla on Saturday night, a win that puts the minor premiers within 80 minutes of a grand final.

Tedesco and Mitchell are two good reasons alone to get excited about the Bondi club.

First ladies game.

The New Zealand Warriors have sprung an upset over the more-fancied Sydney Roosters in the history-making NRL Holden Women's Premiership clash with a 10-4 victory on Saturday at ANZ Stadium.

The Warriors scored two early tries and held onto a six-point lead for the entire second half in an enthralling encounter to start the NRLW competition.

It was an aggressive performance from the Luisa Avaiki-coached side, who came into the clash with two trial games under their belt.
