In what looks to be a open season with no clear standout team, it will be interesting to see how many teams assume the mantle as the flag favourite

Before season began, Lions were outright fave. As at today after 1 game being played the new flag favourite is Hawthorn

Great start to the season for the young Hawks. You'd think they will sustain it for most of the season.

Hawks need to be in a good position in the second half of the season to get top 2 or top 4 at least when Mitch Lewis and Calsher Dear are ready to come back to be a serious premiership contender.

Cats lost by 10 points in a Prelim to the reigning Premiers, were in front with 2 minutes to go as well.
I don’t think we are far off them and we beat them earlier in the year at the Gabba convincingly

Luvin the Hawks' approach, play with verve, like a jazz group. Coach Mitchell is extremely impressive with his player management and positioning.

I'd like to see Freo, Bombers and Suns step up to add a fresh tone to the challengers

GWS were favourites from Opening Round to Round 7 and then Sydney were favourites from Round 8 onwards.

The cats should have won the flag last year. Muffed the last quarter of the prelim and would have throttled the swans the next week.

They deserve to be regarded as strong contenders this year.

It's hard to split Brisbane, Sydney and Hawthorn at this stage.

Brisbane ran over the top of them in the second half of that prelim- something that seemed to happen to the Cats regularly last year, so I don’t see them deserving of the flag at all.

If their youngsters can keep up the brilliant form they showed last year I have no doubt they can go one or two better this year, they have the winning muscle memory and the veteran steel. I reckon they should realistic be favourites along with Bris and maybe GWS.

It’s probably the St Kilda game end of the year where they totally faded out, almost inexplicably. Lasting impression in my mind that I wasn’t suprised when the same happened against the Lions
