Only question I have is whether he'll be doing the same thing at our club in the role of CEO.

I'd say he is more about ideas and implementation rather than doing it himself.

The members have an obligation to question the manner in which the club is run though.
If they have done something demonstrably wrong, for sure. Other than that, let them get on with their jobs surely? The board volunteer to share their skills. They get nothing for it.

Since the 'reset' with SOS and Bolton we have generally had pretty good publicity about the club and it's path. It might have been easy for the board to sit on their hands and say we've made the hard decisions and put the building blocks in place now let's just sit back and wait for all to happen.

Despite the admirable job that Trigg seemed to do I'm glad the board has seen the weakness and acknowledged the poor membership and acted to try and fix it.

Anyone who had been on committees or in business know that an organisation like a football must be an evolving beast and continually bringing in new blood and ideas.

Change doesn't necessarily always mean instability.

Whats he good at? Or more accurately, what does he bring to the table?

I genuinely dont know. Curious.

Stability and strength. Won't be influenced by the media or anyone else and will stick to the plan and support SOS/Bolton all the way through. Thank goodness

True, not everyone has to be charismatic and extroverted.

If he's doing his job, I don't give a *, there are others that can speak on behalf of the club.

Which is what we have been crying out for for years.

Why would MLG be a feature in the media? It’s not his role, nor should it ever be. Sure, as the President of a footy club he may weigh in on vital issues at the right time, but why would he base this availability and visibility on the whim of sensationalist media?

The Club’s strategy and conviction is blindingly clear, with people like Bolton, McKay & Judd consistently reading from the exact same hymn book. We are pursuing a bold plan we crafted several years ago, fully aligned on how we get there, and fully aware of the scale of the challenge. We constantly have this reinforced by the people in charge. End of story.

The incredibly articulate Bucks said it perfectly - he just doesn’t care about the footy media anymore. It serves a purpose, but it’s more about fan engagement than anything else. It’s not a meaningful measurement of performance or success.

The way it works is that there is an entire industry of people who derive their income from ‘finding stories’ about footy. So what happens when every day of every week, their livelihood is dependent on finding these stories? Are they incentivised to be bastions of truth and insight? Or are they better served by being brash, churning out provocative statements, and making a name for themselves by constistently unearthing the next player or club in crisis?

You throw in the fact that they operate in a rapidly diminishing industry (traditional journalism), in an over-saturated market (AFL media), and the main driver behind them pumping stories out is clearly NOT to be thoughtful and reasoned. It’s arguably not even their fault, as they are simply responding to commercial pressures. But it does mean that the quality of journalism in footy is appallingly low, and sadly built around stirring the pot to get supporters fired up (either positively or negatively). Fortunately, whilst in pain, the majority of Carlton supporters understand that what the club is doing gives us our best chance at long-term success, regardless of what the media says.

Credit to Wayne Carey, who performed brilliantly in dealing with the closest human equivalent to a brick wall, Luke Darcy. As Duck said, sure it was pathetic. But the expectations this year have always been spoon or thereabouts. So, is this a shock? Has the plan changed? No and no. Disappointing to be sure, and that first half was woeful, but we can still see some progress being made towards our LONG (not short) term goal of building a sustainable winner.
