Be patient everyone there will be changes.l think we all will be excited with the outcome.

Really not sure there is anything internal that excites me at present. The best scenario internally is a benefactor takes the reigns, pays out the debt, runs the club according to their personal whims for a while, then hands it over again. At least somebody will finally get rid of the debt. Given, how much money we have thrown away on this coaching change, we better have a massive sponsorship injection and pay off the debt in the next year or two, or whoever has been waiting to gain full control better pay it off straight away.

Another year of low memberships and increased debt given this decision would be a poor outcome.

3aw discussing an interview channel 7 will show tonight with Malthouse

It is starting to actually sound like we have the most incompetent board in the afl as it is starting to sound like the deal is far from done

If this ends up being true it's comical

The ONLY way Micky Milk$hake will take the job - i$ on his term$. Not (only) money but al$o control. He will want a very very $tructured term $heet. what we are looking at is Micky want$ t en$ure two things: 1. Tenure and 2. (more importantly) a budget and complete control over the Footy Dept , the Li$t and a $ay in how the whole Club work$. He has learned from Collingwood experience - and no way is he going to allow hm$elf to be under ANY control what so ever from a back room boys.

Ye$ if you want Micky Milk$hake - you better hand over the Club to him whil$t you are at it.

All this because the Carlton Board has allowed itself to be manipultated into a corner - sacking Ratts because .... - but sacking him - before having locked in any alternative. Now the only face saving exercise will be - to give in to MM' s demands. MM has played the meedja/Carlton/ and everyone else off each other - to perfection in order to maximise his bargaining power. MM controls the timetable, terms and negotiating territory.

Swan and Sticks and the back room boys have been suckered into a corner.

I have no problem whatsoever with MM - he is negotiating what he wants- the problem is havingg handed over the high ground to an outsider coming is a saviour - call it whatever you like - this drama/comedy/tragedy has along way to go.

Well at least we have gotten rid of Ratten.

That's all that matters apparently, to you at least.

Good to read that someone else finds the debt to be of some concern. That makes two of us from what I can tell.

Hell, one Carlton supporting clown on the main board calls it "small".

I'm sure we could find better use for $400,000 pa than spending it on interest costs.

the debt is not any concern at all we are paying it down rapidly and the club mentioned we will knock another million off it this year

Strap in and enjoy the ride

Debt in moderation is no problem last thing you want is a lazy balance sheet

It was nearly $7.5 million in the 2011 Annual Report.

What is it now?

It's not the debt that concerns me Sherb. We have slowly been addressing that. I had no problem with them spending extra money on the football department as that is our bread and butter. I have no problem spending money on staff or facilities. I do have a problem with paying out another coach, possibly some assistants as well, then getting another coach at more than twice the salary and his choice of assistants. It's like BANG, here's a casual million in redundancy costs plus our coaching wages bill will go up by another million every single year.

The level of debt concerns me. It always has. But I am happy to acknowledge it is manageable and is being reduced. Too slowly for my liking, but it is being reduced.

The remainder of your post (bolded and the following text) is well made and I agree with it completely.

The club's debt is nothing the average punter needs to be concerned about.

The buck stops with the directors. Correct me if I'm wrong but if their actions send an entity broke then they're personally liable under the corporations act, which can result in some nasty legal proceedings against them to recover the money and smear their good names in the business community for eternity.

However close to insolvency the club may seem, there are some very wealthy people on the board. If they say adding an extra $2m to the debt figure is manageable, in them we trust.

I'm not concerned with the debt as such mate. I'm concerned that the club will tell us it needs our support, and many like me, hand over membership money that we occasionally can not afford, for games that we will never get to, because we want to support and were scared of losing the club during what was a terrible decade.

It is a concern if the payout figures and extra money for higher priced coaches goes on to our bottom line and our debt blows out. I figure the payouts and one years worth of the extra, would equate to about 13000 memberships. I would hope that 13000 members monies are not paying for this. I hope that the people making the decisions are putting in in out of their own pockets. Because I get nothing for my membership dollar aside from the pride I get in supporting my club, I just don't want my money going towards paying for a decision that I disagreed with.

debt isnt an issue, we are talking massive figures with an AFL club. Just look at cost of membership x members for a tiny indication...

If debt wasn't an issue - then why wasn't it cleared by these benefactors?

Pratt is on the record as saying the Club should be resonsible for clearing the balance of debt as a reason for it not being totally paid off - otherwise it will learn nothing.
Corporate Law is irreleant - Carlton isn't a 'corporation' it doesn't have shareholders.
Revenues should be greater than costs - all the time.

The Ratten decision can only be explained within a context of a percieved need to win a Premiership ASAP or to significantly increase its probability.
Sticks is on the public record as wanting Cloke and being prepared to give up players to make it happen.

There is a lot of risk taking as well as an agenda of significant change going on.

For the sake of the Club and its supporters - I hope this Board has thought through all the combinations and permutations of their decision.
As supporters -we have no choice but to trust in this decision - irrespective of bad taste and all the questions that arise.

The members of the club have the right, and I'd argue the obligation, to question the decisions, direction and philosophy of the club. That's healthy.

Unwavering trust is folly. Look at where it ended up getting us with the Elliott administration.

In them we trust indeed.

Have to compliment your President on his comments today which among other things told Boofhead McGuire to keep his nose out of the Blues business. Well done Sticks:thumbsu:

Actually, Carlton Football Club is a corporation. Voting members have a limited liability of $50 if it goes down the gurgler. We're the equivalent of share-holders. Corporate law very much applies.

Loved it. :thumbsu:

The actual quote (only part of it) from Stick's pre match Presidents speech yesterday : -

"I have had fleeting moments of hearing the rantings from the President of the black and white mob :D during the week."

"I'm sure the AFL boss Andrew Demetriou was more than a little surprised that one of the more experienced AFL Presidents was discussing or accusing the AFL of preferential treatment to another Club."

"Ed, we'll get on with our business and you get on with yours and sign up your player if you want to keep him" (referring to Cloke)

Quite right about the $50 liability - wrong about being anything like shareholders. Corporations Act applies to Governance issues with Clubs - but without 'equity' issues pretty much a toothless association really Alec.
