Well at least we have gotten rid of Ratten.3aw discussing an interview channel 7 will show tonight with Malthouse
It is starting to actually sound like we have the most incompetent board in the afl as it is starting to sound like the deal is far from done
If this ends up being true it's comical
Good to read that someone else finds the debt to be of some concern. That makes two of us from what I can tell.Really not sure there is anything internal that excites me at present. The best scenario internally is a benefactor takes the reigns, pays out the debt, runs the club according to their personal whims for a while, then hands it over again. At least somebody will finally get rid of the debt. Given, how much money we have thrown away on this coaching change, we better have a massive sponsorship injection and pay off the debt in the next year or two, or whoever has been waiting to gain full control better pay it off straight away.
Another year of low memberships and increased debt given this decision would be a poor outcome.
He's the only one capable of doing it.
Big tick from me.
the debt is not any concern at all we are paying it down rapidly and the club mentioned we will knock another million off it this yearGood to read that someone else finds the debt to be of some concern. That makes two of us from what I can tell.
Hell, one Carlton supporting clown on the main board calls it "small".
I'm sure we could find better use for $400,000 pa than spending it on interest costs.
It was nearly $7.5 million in the 2011 Annual Report.the debt is not any concern at all we are paying it down rapidly and the club mentioned we will knock another million off it this year
Strap in and enjoy the ride
Debt in moderation is no problem last thing you want is a lazy balance sheet
It's not the debt that concerns me Sherb. We have slowly been addressing that. I had no problem with them spending extra money on the football department as that is our bread and butter. I have no problem spending money on staff or facilities. I do have a problem with paying out another coach, possibly some assistants as well, then getting another coach at more than twice the salary and his choice of assistants. It's like BANG, here's a casual million in redundancy costs plus our coaching wages bill will go up by another million every single year.Good to read that someone else finds the debt to be of some concern. The level of debt concerns me. It always has. But I am happy to acknowledge it is manageable and is being reduced. Too slowly for my liking, but it is being reduced. It's not the debt that concerns me Sherb. We have slowly been addressing that. I'm not concerned with the debt as such mate. I'm concerned that the club will tell us it needs our support, and many like me, hand over membership money that we occasionally can not afford, for games that we will never get to, because we want to support and were scared of losing the club during what was a terrible decade. The club's debt is nothing the average punter needs to be concerned about.
The buck stops with the directors. Correct me if I'm wrong but if their actions send an entity broke then they're personally liable under the corporations act, which can result in some nasty legal proceedings against them to recover the money and smear their good names in the business community for eternity.
However close to insolvency the club may seem, there are some very wealthy people on the board. If they say adding an extra $2m to the debt figure is manageable, in them we trust.

The members of the club have the right, and I'd argue the obligation, to question the decisions, direction and philosophy of the club. That's healthy. The club's debt is nothing the average punter needs to be concerned about.

Have to compliment your President on his comments today which among other things told Boofhead McGuire to keep his nose out of the Blues business. Well done Sticks![]()
Actually, Carlton Football Club is a corporation. Voting members have a limited liability of $50 if it goes down the gurgler. We're the equivalent of share-holders. Corporate law very much applies.
Loved it.
The actual quote (only part of it) from Stick's pre match Presidents speech yesterday : -
"I have had fleeting moments of hearing the rantings from the President of the black and white mobduring the week."
"I'm sure the AFL boss Andrew Demetriou was more than a little surprised that one of the more experienced AFL Presidents was discussing or accusing the AFL of preferential treatment to another Club."
"Ed, we'll get on with our business and you get on with yours and sign up your player if you want to keep him" (referring to Cloke)
