We had a small injury scare before the match with young Jake Lever being a late withdrawl from the game, but I thought Sam Shaw was fantastic in what was another solid win from the group. A 35 point victory in Melbourne in front of a healthy crowd of just under 40,000 at Etihad Satdium. I thought loosing Lever was a big blow for us at the start of the match, but to the credit of Shaw who played his first game of the season, played really well down back.
Brodie Smith after signing a new 2 year contract really attracted the footy today and had one of his best games of the year racking up 34 touches, 6 clearances and 7 inside 50s. Thompson, Sloane and VanBerlo all had plenty of ball through the midfield, but it’s guys like Cam Ellis-Yolmen (23 possessions, 5 tackles and 1 goal) and Luke Brown (22 possessions, 4 rebounds) that are really standing up for this club at the moment.
Captain Taylor Walker really stood up for us again this afternoon as he kicked another bag of 6 goals while he had great support from Richie Douglas and Patrick Dangerfield, two of our midfielders were able to get forward and get on the scoreboard. That’s the great thing about this club, is guys like Brad Crouch, Cameron Ellis-Yolmen and Brodie Smith in the side, allows us to put them through the middle of the ground, while we can gives guys like Douglas and Dangerfield a breather in the forward half to throw off the opposition.
I was very happy with the result today, as the boys were able to get on top of the game from the get go. We won all bar 1 stat for the afternoon which was the clearances, but I thought our midfielders were able to work hard and read the ball off the Bulldogs ruckman for most of the day.

Another solid win away from home. This playing group is getting tighter and better each week and we’re starting to see the results of a preseason together. We’ve worked hard over the summer and now we are starting to see the results as we sit in 4th positions on the AFL Ladder after this win against the Gold Coast. We have a 7-3 record heading into the second half of the season.
It just shows you again this afternoon that we’ve got players wanting to play for this jumper and we’ve got guys in the SANFL ready to make an impact once there’s an injury or suspension. James Podsiadly, one of our veterans has been in the SANFL all year, but with the injury to Jenkins and the out of form Lowden and Dear, we needed a tall forward, and Pods was able to come in, play his role and kick 3 important goals for us this afternoon.
Cameron Ellis-Yolmen is starting to surprise the AFL world. He’s played the last 3 games in a row now, and he is taking the world by storm. 14 possessions, 1 goal and 4 clearances in a solid outing against the Power, 23 touches, 5 tackles and a goal against the Bulldogs last weekend and now his best game to date with 25 possessions, 5 tackles a goal and 8 clearances this afternoon against the Suns. The 20 year old is starting to gain a lot of confidence in his body, and is keeping his position ahead of fancies like Matt Crouch, Mitch Grigg and Sam Kerridge.
The Big Texan was awesome again today with another bag of 6 goals, takes his tally to 40 for the season and is now looking at a top 3 finish in the Coleman Medal counting.
Sloane, Thompson and VanBerlo again all got 30+ touches, while Podsiadly and Douglas provided to be targets inside forward 50. This is the Crows third win in a row and coming up against the Lions at home next weekend we’ll be in position to be in good form heading into the round 12 encounter against the reigning premiers Hawthorn at the MCG. That will be our biggest test, and a perfect way we can compare ourselves up against the competitions best

A very handy 44 point win at home today. Wasn’t happy with the way we started the game as the Lions were harder at the ball and put scoreboard pressure on us. But to the credit of our players, we were able to get into the game through sheer hard work and gut running.
Led by our Captain Tex Walker in the forward half, who finished with another 6 goals for the night, he was well supported by Tom Lynch who kicked 3, and Brad Crouch, Douglas and Podsiadly with 2 each. I was very happy with the ball movement around the ground from the players as well. We want to be a team that kicks the ball more then we handball, and we showed that today I thought. 210 kicks to 162 handballs which means we’re basically kicking the ball every 2nd possession we get.
Jacobs was again awesome for us, Smith, Dangerfield, Sloane and Walker were all good again today. But I was most happy with Mitch Grigg. After being on the cusp of this side in recent years, he has certainly grown to be a vital player in our side. He amassed 27 possessions today, I think he’s best effort for the club, and his lethal left foot, puts us in a great position going forward. Guys like Walker, Jenkins and Pods love when Grigg has the ball as he most times finds his target.

Certainly when you look at the result today, and when you see the stats, you’d think that the Adelaide Crows would have beaten the Hawks convincingly. You would not have believed that Hawthorn beat Adelaide by 41 points. But that was the case, we had more football then our opposition, but still lost by 7 goals. Hawthorn, when got the ball are a very dangerous football side. They have such an awesome attack, with Roughead (6), Gunston (5) goals leading the way.
We have +125 disposals, +45 hitouts, +10 inside 50s, +20 clearances and yet we still lost the game by 7 goals.
Apart from the loss we had 2 injuries to 2 of our star players. Eddie Betts suffered a groin strain and he’s likely to miss at least 3 weeks. Patrick Dangerfield was our other casualty with Danger suffering a quad strain and the doc’s say he is likely to miss 5-6 weeks.
That put a massive damper on a dark day for the club against the reigning premiers.
But let’s have a look at the positives. Youngster Matt Crouch was outstanding for the afternoon. He had 33 possessions, kicked 2 goals and 7 clearances. Mitch Grigg again has really stood up in our midfield, another 29 disposal game, 4 tackles and 6 inside 50s. Brodie Smith has continued his great year, while Dangerfield was very good before he got injured in the last quarter racking up 24 possessions and 6 tackles.
Taylor Walker was again a stand out in our forward line. Kicked another 5 goals which now takes his total for 57 for the year at the half way mark, and is leading the Coleman Medal currently.
The club does have a bye in Round 13, so hopefully we can get a few injuries and suspensions back and come out firing against the Bombers at home in Adelaide.

Coming back after the bye, we thought the group had a very relaxing time off, except with the injuries to some of our star players, Dangerfield, Betts and Thompson we had to make 5 changes to the side against the Bombers.
The Bombers were just too good for us this evening at Adelaide Oval. Essendon won by 32 points and really dominated most of the major stats of the night.
I was very pleased with Kyle Hartigan’s game. With Otten and Talia taking key defensive posts as well as Kyle Cheney being the 3rd tall defender, we thought we could use Hartigan as a swing man. It’s certainly he’s best game for the club picking up 22 possessions, laid 12 tackles and kicked 2 goals. 12 tackles is massive for a 194cm defender. 6 spoils and 5 rebounds to go with his numbers, he and Jacobs were certainly 2 of our best players.
Sam Jacobs was again solid today, after a bit of a training mishap. Jacobs finished with 22 possessions, 8 marks, 35 hitouts and 6 inside 50s. With Tex Walker a little quieter this week, all credit goes to Michael Hurley who played a wonderful game against our captain, but it was time for guys like Jenkins, Lowden and Lynch to stand up. I was impressed with Luke Lowden today. His first game for a long time, he doesn’t get plenty of the ball, but if he is able to allow Jenkins play as a full time forward, he goes into the ruck and give Jacobs a rest, and he also kicked 2 goals, if Lowden can do that each week, he’ll be a valuable trade in for our club.

It’s nice to be back on the winners list after the defeat at home by the Bombers last week. Coming over here against a side that is hard to beat on it’s best day, and coming over to Perth is arguably the toughest road trip in footy today, it was nice to come away with the 4 points.
This win keeps us within the top 8 for the time being, and now being at round 15, the top 8 is starting to settle itself, so hopefully for this playing group, we can keep winning games and stay inside.
It was a great effort from the guys today, as I mentioned before, coming up against a Eagles outfit who before today had been sitting in 3rd positions on the AFL ladder, and at their home deck, it was going to be a tough ask. But we had confidence and we walked away with a solid 33 point win.
We move to 9-5 now after 15 rounds, so hopefully those type of wins against sides who are either above us or around us will set us up for the remainder of the year.
Very pleased to see Josh Jenkins stand up and play one of his best games for the year. He finished with 13 possessions, 6 hitouts and 5 goals. Even though Tex was able to kick his 4 goals, it was nice to be able to see someone else sand up and kick a bag, rather than rely on Walker each week to kick us a winning score. Jenkins since injury has come back into the side and played his role. The combination of Walker and Jenkins went a long way to winning us this game tonight.
You know I thought our midfield stood up as well, without Dangerfield and Thompson in the middle, it seemed we lacked from grunt in the middle, but I was happy with the step up from Richard Douglas today, he has been playing mainly as a small forward this season, but with the injuries we put him in the middle and he answered for us with 36 possessions, 8 marks, 8 tackles, 5 clearances and 7 inside 50s. It was certainly a complete game from Richie. He was well supported by Smith, Sloane and Brad Crouch through the middle as well.
I was also very impressed with our defenders tonight as well. We all know West Coast have a prone attack, but apart from Darling (5 goals), I thought most of their forwards were well held by our defense. Kyle Cheney was solid (19 possessions, 4 rebounds), Andy Otten is building a lot of form (19 possessions, 11 spoils), Luke Brown is becoming our most important shut down small forward (17 possessions)
Very happy with the result and beating a team sitting in 3rd position at their home ground. Look forward to taking to the field against St.Kilda at home next Sunday night

This game was a lot close than the ladder positions suggests. All credit goes to the Saints today who really pushed us in the last quarter right down to the final minutes. The game could of gone either way, it was fast paced and a high scoring affair. Glad our boys had the desire to win and ended up with the 4 points
The game was close all afternoon, there was no time in the coaches box where I was like, “Ok, we’ve got this one in the bag”, to the Saints credit, they had a real crack this afternoon, and another 2-3 minutes longer and they could’ve pipped us at the line.
Another huge game from our captain today. Tex is starting to show everyone why he was the certain choice for Captain of this club. A bag of 7.4 today, could have finished with 10 in the end, but to kick another 7 after already having 63 for the season is an amazing effort from the big guy.
Matthew Wright was handy as a small forward kicking 3 goals, he’s best return for the season. Eddie Betts is way down on confidence at the moment, and we needed someone like Wright to stand up and kick goals, which he did.
Richard Douglas again was one of our best. Another 37 possession game from Douglas, with 7 clearances and 6 marks he is starting to hit some peak form at the right time of the season. After a few quiet games I thought VanBerlo got back some form today, was amongst the possessions again with 36 at the end, while Smith and Sloane again were great for us.
Again, all credit goes to the Saints and Alan Richardson for such a hard fought game. A 6 goal last term just wasn’t enough to get us in the end, but they have something pretty special brewing down at Seaford at the moment, and they’ll certainly be in a few years’ time, a contender.

I know what you guys are expecting, me to come out and say “Oh, we should have won that game, they had 23 scoring shots and we had 26 scoring shots, but we kicked poorly and scored 17 behinds”. Reality is, we missed shots on goal, Sydney capitalized on our poor kicking and punished us. Apart from the scoreboard though, I thought the game was very much in the balance, and had we of kicked straighter, it would have been an interesting finish to the match.
It just wasn’t our day on the scoreboard, and credit goes to the Swans who seen the opportunity and pounced which now puts them into the top 8 and has us lingering in 8th position hanging on with our teeth.
Like I mentioned before, apart from our goal kicking, I thought we were right in this contest. Jenkins played well up forward and play a lot more in the ruck this week and picked up 22 possessions.
Matt Crouch showed why it was a good idea to trade out Bernie Vince last year, with a 33 possession game, with 6 tackles, 6 clearances and 7 inside 50s. The more games we get into him, the better Crouch will become. I thought Brodie Martin was very good today after not getting much opportunity in the seniors this year and playing a lot of games as the sub, I thought he was solid enough to play a full match and he showed good patience and produced on game day. He’ll certainly keep his position in the side this next week.

After seeing most of the stats by the end of the night, you would expect that the Tigers would have demolished us. If any supporter wasn’t able to watch that match and seen the stats without seeing the scores, would have thought the same thing, a Tigers win.
But credit to our boys, we were able to run away with the win in fine fashion, winning by 23 points, in front of another healthy crowd of just under 50 thousand at Adelaide Oval. It was the second quarter where I thought the players were really starting to get on top of the game and started to play we wanted to play. After kicking 5.0 to 4.1 in the opening term, we were able to kick the next 4 goals of the game to open up a 27 point lead heading into the half time break.
Josh Jenkins was solid again for us today as we looked to have utilized his height in the forward 50. He finished with 3 goals, 9 possessions and 12 hitouts. We had 12 goal scorers today which I thought showed we have a wide range of avenues to goal. Guys like Eddie Betts and Tex might have off days from time to time, but knowing guys like Jenkins, Martin (2 goals, 16 possessions) and Nathan VanBerlo (2 goals, 22 touches) can bob up and score for us when needed.
Matt Crouch was again excellent for us through the middle of the ground. He has really stamped his authority on the side in the last couple of weeks. Another 29 possession game from him was excellent, as was his brother who finished with 24 possessions, 12 contested.
Sam Jacobs was certainly in our best players at the end of the day. He monstered both Hampson and Vickery today with 22 possessions, 8 marks, 39 hitouts and 1.1 to his name. Huge game from Sauce, as he walks away with the best and fairest votes you'd think from that performance.

Was awesome for the playing group to get on the national stage at the MCG on a Friday night and play against the Blues who are a powerhouse Victorian club. We as a club have tried to work with the AFL on a number of occasions to hopefully get more of a fixture on the Friday night stage. Very pleased with the result as winning in Melbourne is a confidence booster, and gains credibility with the rest of the competition being able to win in Melbourne, shows them we’re fair dinkum about what we’re trying to achieve.
Again, I need to point out Matt Crouch’s performance today. He was outstanding again with 33 possessions and 6 clearances. He is really starting to stand up in this competition and I’m sure opposition coaches are starting to take notice.
Josh Jenkins was again a focal point in the forward line finishing with 4 goals from 18 possessions, and Eddie Betts was able to finally hit the scoreboard after a very poor start to the year, he was able to kick 3 goals against his old side.
Richard Douglas, Brad Crouch and David Mackay found plenty of the ball through the midfield, while Kyle Hartigan was a rock in defense. He finished the match with 21 possessions, 6 tackles and 7 rebounds whilst playing on the main Carlton forward in Lachie Henderson. It was arguably the best game I’ve seen from Hartigan as my short time as coach, so that’ll build some confidence for him going into the latter part of the season.
