Am I the only one opposed to wearing it in a showdown? Port Adelaide is thinking bigger than SA and as a traditional club of Australian rules I would rather see us periodically wear it against other old traditional clubs, like Carlton, than against the camrys.
We have worn it about 3 or 4 times now.
I think it needs to be mothballed and we get on with life.

that's a shame.. maybe we should drop the black and white too, go with pink and yellow and teal.. leave the past behind
.

i dont get why some think we should shelf our old jumper forever isnt that just extremely disrespectful? 17 other clubs would absolutely kill for our heritage and half our awards let alone our jumper, a design that creates ENVY. they would all kill to be allowed to wear it at least once a year and remind everyone they won a national record 36 flags in the jumper. are we scared of being taunted over not letting go? the jealous ones will always make fun of something.

Disrespectful?
What about the 4 jumpers we wore before adopting black and white prison bars?
What about the variations in the prison bar designs?

Interestingly I found an old thread here, by Natman..
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/pafc-home-jumpers-from-1870-2010.764897/

He claims the third jumper was blue and white, but the club is selling the framed The Guernsey piece showing the third jumper as magneta and blue. He also posted a photo backing up his statement.

It would be great if we could play in the prison bars, or a variation of them in the AFL.
But it's not possible.
We have a great new guernsey design that should become our new "prison bars". I'm sure in the years ahead the design will evolve and look even better.

Is there a reason we played with the design and stripes so much in the middle there? I'm aware the collingwood guernsey has something to do with collingwood, but what about some of the other?

It wasn't my thread or photo - I was being sarcastic (didn't use Sarcastia font though) at the change from Magenta to B&W would have been radical at the time and the telegrams on BF would have caused a bit of a stir.

Mostly it was small changes, such as different colour of cuff, size of bars or number of bars. But these things varied from player to player in each and every year anyway. Well, until we finally standardized our guernsey in the late 1990's when sublimation technology because a viable venture. The biggest changes to our guernsey were in the early stages (when we messed around with blue, magenta and white) and in the late 40's and 50's. We introduced various new 'brace like' jumpers in 1947, 1949 and 1950. I'm not sure what the reason for that was though, perhaps it was the style of the time... around that time in the VFL both Hawthorn and North Melbourne changed from a V design to their current striped design so maybe striped/braced designs were just the 'in thing'... Anyway, fun fact, in 1951 we literally borrowed jumpers directly from Collingwood and in 1952 we reverted back to the prison bar design.

Well i've had a think about this,and to be honest,i think wearing the bars when we play the crowbots should be mandatory, pafc and the sanfl has,for a long time,been like a tug of war,a,david and goliath,with the c-bots being a thrown together group of players {afranchise by the sanfl} specifically designed to derail our attempts to enter the AFL, i reckon by wearing the BARS when we play them would be like a f**k you, we're here and you failed type of statement that the whole afl audience can applaud {but thats just me :p}

Oh yeh your right, sorry about that, PortBrilliance's thread.
