WACA has really stuffed things up, honestly getting rid of guys like Robinson Deropolus or however you spell it, not playing young guns who are playing well in grade cricket, getting rid of Mcgoffin who goes onto win the Shield the Marsh saga geez there not even punishing them or letting it slip. Really we should be putting games into the kids, you can see why Katich never wanted to come back things really need a shake up its going to be a long season...

Lolwat, the Marsh brothers are the only guys to have paid any consequence whatsoever, despite the fact that the entire team was out that night. I'm not defending them as they both seem like they need a bit of kick at the moment, but regardless of priors, punishing two blokes whilst ignoring the rest seems a bit crazy to me.

Mitch is a friend of a friend. He's a good bloke, but he's like any 21 year old. And Cape Town is an amazing city. I don't blame the TEAM for wanting to party. Unfortunately the Marsh boys have been made a bit of a scapegoat, but that's life.

It's just one of those things where you need to weigh it up. You're getting paid to do something you love, that expects 100% commitment. He'll grow up.

:hearts: you Mitch

Lack of talent if anything.
I'd argue the complete opposite. When they've played to their potential they've wiped the floor with some good teams in Shield matches. It's all mental.

The lack of talent coming through the grade comp is a concern, though. Been getting most of our good bowlers from other states for some time now.

Yeah this is what I was refering to. Most of our bowlers are from over east. Need some more depth in our grades.

Matt Dixon and Joel Paris I like. Duffman is a good local who keeps putting his name up there. Not sure about the other local stocks, was going to say Behrendorff but then I remembered he's an import too. Going to be a good bowler though.

The problem is that someone like Jake Fawcett who scored 4 hundreds in grade and is only 22 is nowhere near the 2nd XI side.

Problem around WA cricket has been the same for ages, simply too many dickheads. by the time they worked out they had to piss off guys like Rogers the team culture was shot.

Then you have the Marsh brothers / Pomers / etc etc coming in and acting like the bogans they are and it just adds another dimension.

They went out on the town with Mr H. Gibbs. Of course they were going to party.

Hopefully this means that Mitch will take this punishment the way that it is intended, and will become totally committed to his career.

Is the long term replacement for Watson.

Overall though, thus is going to be a very long process for WA cricket.

Don't think he'll ever open the batting.
If we are talking tests, in the perfect world, Watson wouldn't be batting top 4 either IMO.

E: Not that that should matter anyway. When I said long term replacement for Watson, I meant as a genuine pace all rounder, who could do damage with bat an ball. Your argument is rather pointless in this regard.

Watson can't be viewed as the classical all-rounder because he isn't being slipped down the order. I highly doubt Marsh will ever be a top 3 batsman so I don't think he's exactly a Shue in to be the 'next Watson'.

He'll bowl Watson's overs if he makes it but will play a different role with the blade.

Has to perform at FC level before any of your argumentative babble becomes even the slightest bit relevant.

Not sure Marsh is quite the same quantity with the ball yet at this stage. Watson has a few more strings to his bow.

I think Noobz0r is saying that he's a similar type player to Watson (i.e. Tall, powerful batsmen who bowl fast mediums), not necessarily their role.

My statement in regards to Watson and March was about their role as an all rounder, someone who plays a significant role in a cricket team with both bat and ball. Not about where they bat in the order. Stop trying to shape my argument to fit yours.

And I am happy to admit that when I said "long term replacement" I meant on potential. I would presume that long term replacement means exactly that; someone who, 3-5 years from now, could replace Watson (as an all rounder) in the Australian test XI.

Perhaps make it clearer next time. We aren't replacing an all-rounder, we're replacing a top order batsman who bowls a bit. Ideally, as you said, this wouldn't be the case. I'd have Watson at 5/6 and Mitch will be a future number 6.

Good.

Now why do you have to be snappy when you just confirmed I was right with a point?

I admit that I should have specified my view on Watson in my original post, I apologise. In my second post I said that ideally, Watson wouldn't have to bat so high in the order

I think we agree with each other... haha
