I am just curious in the figure as it has been over 10 years since we had a referendum for it. Personally, I think we should become a Republic.

The institution of a constitutional monarchy isn't pointless at all, given that reserve powers are vested in the monarch. The whole point of reserve powers exercised by the monarch and his/her representatives is that those reserve powers mostly operate in the background and operate as an incentive to appropriate behaviour by politicians.

Damn - just realised I was in a souvenir shop a couple of weeks ago and they had dozens of those Queen bobbleheads on display. I could have picked up a heap on the cheap. Might have even made a little profit*. They'll be flying off the shelves in Leicester Square today.

* Or been stuck with a bunch of QEII bobbleheads. Win-win either way.

That's not necessarily true. In 1952 George VI was found dead by his valet at Sandringham at 7.30am and it took about four hours to broadcast the news which was done by the BBC at 11.15 am. Had the Queen died, when the news about her health was first broadcast the public would probably know by now with an official announcement.
