It's funny because we kind of did start a rebuild with all the old boys we cleared out last season and debuting an equal league high 8 players. We just happened to win the flag in the first year of our rebuild as well

Good clubs are constantly trying to improve, develop their youth, have a squad plan, turnover the ‘deadwood’ and looking to the draft/trade period.

It’s a halfwit myth that clubs must pick a point in time to completely rebuild their list.. it breeds a failure culture and it’s what loser clubs like freo resort to.

So glad WC didn’t get sucked in by this absolute football fools gold

Agreed. Successful clubs over the years have all debuted a decent amount of kids and played some young players in good sides for a good amount of games. They always seem to perform well too, most likely because they’ve got the older guys to learn from and come in with less pressure. Compare that to a side that just stacks their team with kids, and all of a sudden they all panick and worry more about their individual performances rather than doing the little things they’re asked to do. It’s why teams like Carlton have been so s**t for so long, and Freo being 4 years into a never ending rebuild. You need to blood youth while you’re successful to keep the pressure off them and let them grow in a good winning culture.

2017 was a mess to be fair

The constant calls for us to trade Gaff and Darling were ridiculous. We are struggling in the midfield but lets trade away our only all Australian Mid, the best winger in the game, lets also break up the best key forward combo in the league. Anything the last 3 years has shown us is that things can change quickly, Bulldogs and Richmond came from outside the 8 to win and we came from an average period but not really contending.

We've won more games than anyone the past 4 years. That's contending!

Simmo needs to back Barrass in for the rest of the year now. No young key defender playing on the best forward is going to dominate each week. Barrass hasn't been s**t but has had a few bad moments in contests. If we want Barrass to become a reliable stopper next season, he needs to play each week.

It's also time for simmo to trials a few players in different positions.
