We are not beating the Dogs in a de facto elim final in the last round

Next Friday's game is the biggest under Longmuir (for like the 5th time this season)
They are flat track bullies. They don't beat teams that can play defense. They are a glass cannon that stands between Fyfe and the fairy tale finish. I'd say it'd be better than even odds we account for the Lions this w/e and the dogs have nothing to play for.

Dogs beat us and they make finals. Still plenty to play for

Assuming they beat WC this weekend, Dogs will 100% have something to play for in Round 24.

Freo or Brisbane, plus Hawthorn and GWS will all be in range of them.

Dogs 100% will need to beat Freo to be guaranteed finals. There will be no easy game against them in Round 24.

Forgot the Lions v Hawks game is after us. They may technically still be live, but it is still different when you are flogging yourselves for the win, but still need another team to help you out. Plays with your mind.

They don’t need another team to help them out. There % is 135. They win and they are in regardless of other results assuming they win this week.
When we win this week, it’s Either Brisbane, Hawks, GWS or Dogs who have to win to make the eight.
GWS need to beat GC this week and Saints next week and have Dogs lose against us to make it.

Yep, but they’ll know that a win guarantees them to jump above either Freo/Brisbane or Hawthorn.

The only realistic way we might get an ‘easier’ game against the Dogs (i.e. not do or die for them) is if they are already locked in to the top 8 before our game. This is possible if GWS lose to Suns in Rd 23 and then Saints in the game immediately prior to ours in Rd 24. Dogs would be level on points with GWS with +20%.

edit: Freo would be safe in the above scenario, too.

Brisbane are beatable, and I think the boys know they are, without Neale in the middle they are going to struggle.
Brissy still have considerable fire-power in the middle with Dunkley, Ashcroft Bros. McCluggage and Rayner pitch hitting.

Fremantle is every chance to be playing for a top four spot in the last round, I don't think either side will be taking the game lightly.

Predictor says if we win this weekend and next weekend, Sydney beat Geelong this weekend and GWS beat GC this weekend - we can finish 2nd - and we will know that before the game starts.

I can't imagine the AFL would be happy with that so prepare yourselves for 30-2 free kicks against since that would make the ladder:
Adelaide, Freo, Geelong, GC, Pies, Giants, Brisbane, Hawks - 5/8 non MCG game teams there aren't a happy time.

It's literally just Pies v Hawks in week one, four games at Adelaide oval and Optus combined regardless of results, two games in QLD and NSW across the first two/three weeks.

Things could line up beautifully too, if all the higher ranked sides win Freo ends up playing Gold Coast off the back of them flying to Adelaide, back to Gold Coast, then to Perth.

Just keep winning.

fr, 11/12 and some people dont go into every game expecting to win???? live it up guys this is the good part
It's hard not to feel anxious when we don't play well against the Bulldogs in Docklands.

Anything can happen, but the past jitters do hit sometimes.

Have we announced we're forfeiting round 24 and giving the points to the Dogs or something?
Odd that nobody seems to give us hope of defeating a flaky flat tracker we've already dispatched once this year.
I've posted it before, I'm quite torn on that game.

Media have been red hot on them, and the way they've put lower teams to the sword has increased the positivity around them.
If you give them the benefit of the doubt they also haven't been blown away by other top 9 teams, just unable to clinch the wins (except against GWS).

What does make it tougher is they play Marvel very well, and they've got key players in great form compared to when we played them at Optus.
If our midfield doesn't get back to form and at a minimum break even we won't win that game I think, centre clearances against will be very hard to defend.

Offensively their midfield is superb, possibly best in comp. Defensively? Highly susceptible to transition. The key players for us here are Freddy, Shai and Treacy. If the talls can spread the area between 40 & 60 out, Freddie and Shai are going to have paddock all game and really be able to cause havoc. Equally, if Treacy can take big grabs in the middle coming out, look for Voss, Amiss and Bolton to get some Joe the gooses out the back (especially if Dale and Johanisson have gone a wandering). Lobb is slow, but good in the air, Busslinger actually looks handy, but doubt he has the strength for Voss or even Amiss. Should be cracker and definitely not one to be writing us off in.

Edit: You're bang on about Centre Clearance. If we can't win them, need to keep them scrappy.

Ideally, we want GWS and Hawhtorn to win and be 4 pts ahead of Bulldogs at the end of this round.
However, Brisbane would be the one that Bulldogs can catch.
There’s still everything to play for on Sunday given Brisbane play after Fremantle v Bulldogs.

Suck The Dogs have freaking West Coast of all teams this week.

The way to beat the dogs is to make it a really tough contest. The pressure has to be immense so there is no easy ball to Naughton and Darcy. It can be done.
