I just heard an idiot call ABC radio talkback in Melbourne who said "The Voice is just a money making enterprise for the Aboriginal Elite and blah, blah, blah but then he said - bottom line, in his view, Aboriginal people don't want this, they just want to be left alone." Seriously.
They did in 1788

I can't kill animals. Grew up from farming stock so went shooting with cousins and family. Shot a couple of birds but didn't have it in me. Much preferred a cardboard box, fence posts or bottles.

Having dogs *s with your head, they can be so humanlike in their emotions and personalities that it's hard not anthropomorphise animals. My kids think I'm a bit of an alpha male that loves doing outdoor s**t but I'm no good with killing animals. That said I nearly cut a snake in half with a shovel last year thinking I'd rather it not be around where I am. Couldn't even do that.sof
Yeah it’s not an easy thing to do or watch.

Actually an influencer i follow did up a mighty boy with a custom paintjob and s**t, used to chuck a tarp in the back and drive it around sitting in the back for a beer. Was pretty funnny.

So we HAD an ASX and upgraded to an Eclipse Cross for almost this exact reason. The ASX is bigger than like the vitara and s**t but its still smallish.

Ours now can fit carseats and prams and the like. There is a clear reason why the SUV is king in Aus.

Yeah, with young kids, not having to scramble inside down low is so much better. The headroom and space make it a much more practical vehicle.

I think taking what the other side has to say and discussing those points openly has value though.

It seems to me the above point regarding "on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples" is the backbone of the no argument, along with not separating by race etc (for want of a better way of putting it)

If I'm debating anyone, the first thing I generally do is let them know I've considered what they said with an open mind.... and taking into account all that, here's why I believe they're wrong.

Yeah, Aussies are generally pretty contrary too. Tell us we are meant to do anything and you get a backlash. Ridiculing someone's position rarely brings them around to your viewpoint but when we argue we like to make the other person feel small and stupid for their views. I saw it in Covid with Facebook people who went down the rabbit hole. People thought that they'd snap out of it if they made out they were acting like a ****ing idiot. It did the opposite. Just made them set in for a fight and become more entrenched.

Unfortunately most of us have a world view wrapped up in our political leanings and vote along what we think best represents our views. Most of us are indoctrinated and subconsciously already have our minds made up. Both freak out at the consequences of the other side winning something and even when you don't win nothing much changes either way.

Politics is pretty much a distraction now. Government has limited power and there are so many compromises that they just throw a few sprigs of parsley on a couple of issues to make representational moves that show the party in the way they want it seen.

I'm with you on your earlier post, looking at it on face value without much info for me it's a relatively easy yes. Think the issue is that nobody is informed well enough to be able to confidently go with one or the other.

All of those small SUVs are usually just a jacked roof and suspension on a hatchback. The Subaru XV is just the Impreza with a lift kit and a roofline lift. The little VW is golf etc. This one is just peeling the back roof section off one of those.

Anyone remember "Top Gear Australia ".

Bit of a flop because Australia had something like 4 cars and most not so interesting , but i remembered this fun episode.

Episode 2.3
To celebrate the 75th birthday of the great Aussie ute, Warren transforms a Toyota Tarago into a ute for families and Steve caters for hairdressers by converting a Honda Prelude into the "Prelute", before they put their vehicles through a number of country roles.

Apparently its on prime, it'd want to be free.

Not even going to look to see which idiot was first or if its even the same one.

Was made to go and see Barbie last night. Wanted to tear my eyes out after half an hour, just decided to ignore the 'story' and perv on Margot Robbie.

She is one fine woman. I have been to Dalby in Qld. How that dump could produce something like her is beyond me.

Maybe I should be "made" to go see Barbie

Stereotype men check the luggage capacity, stereotype women see if it looks like a mini off-road racer.
Feel free not to conform to whatever stereotype may be applicable.

Most here seem to be drifting towards "yes" and i thought the discussion here was one of the better ones on the topic.
Can't help thinking that our Collingwood supporting friend who is going round trying to campaign on the basis of " are you one of us or one of those morons ", is not doing his cause much good.
A lot of people confronted by that will simply get pissed off and go the contrary path out of spite.

It has a bull bar. No snorkle though, it might struggle in the gutter crossings when making the trek from the street to the driveway.

To be honest I'm still reading and am on the fence.

Both sides make some valid points.

It can be tough to sort through all the bullsh*t

If I'm dead honest I actually don't care about it. I think we have far bigger problems to sort out first, it feels to me like a bit of virtue signalling or at least along those lines, instead of dealing with what I think are real issues.

I don't know if any of the politicians have read more than us chumps in here, and so to me it's more an exercise in winning more votes than it is actually making a difference. The fact that they have read **** all about it says to me that they don't care about it either. I got a pamphlet in the mail about it last week and they didn't even list the date that the vote was taking place lol. They sure are making it difficult to vote or even care to vote.

Don't be ambivalent and unengaged George, it's a great failing of the political system, and one that social media tends to push relentlessly (politicians are all ignorant/corrupt/compromised). There are a lot of good politicians in the system, but we definitely need more.

Yes or No, though make sure you have your say.

To be fair I think he was indigenous. If it was me I'd be an angry psycho and make you all hear about it all day everyday. I'm not good with perceived injustice. I'd be like one of those tyre-slasher nutters if anything went against me. I'm all about the underdog and kicking upwards. That's why I follow the Saints I think. You get plenty of chances to feel aggrieved and like you're always being held back in a shitty unjust system.

Back in the late 90s I drove to Lorne behind Mark Phillipousis who'd bought a military sized Hummer and pimped it. The thing was so wide that he was doing the great ocean road at 25 kph the whole way on a busy summer weekend. By the time we got there people were ready to assault him. The thing had 2 wheels on the dirt and still hugged the centre line. The guy must have had a micro dick to have to compensate that much. WTF would you need a giant assault vehicle to drive around Melbourne in?

Probably a fair bit of that but it's not really for us. It's like asking us to vote on free tampons. Hard to get really excited about it unless it directly effects you.

Looks aren't everything.
German soldiers used to laugh at american troops in their Crappy Humvee's.

( German guy i work with was on his military service, doing a NAtO exercise. He said they swapped vehicles with the yanks, they didn't want to give them back. Hummers were slow, bulky , vibrated a lot and werre generally horrible ).

I'm apathetic towards it all actually CF, not just this specific issue. Corporate interest clouds a lot of what politicians could actually do to help the lives of ordinary people so if I had my way I wouldn't partake in any of it. It feels all like just a point scoring game to them. We need new systems, new ways of helping each other. This archaic political system doesn't serve anyone anymore.

He is , i got banned on another thread after i got in a huge argument about english "written" history being of higher integrity than aboriginal word of mouth history. In the view of those writing it in mean. ( it is , don't care what you say its been proven . ) I ended up saying something that was taken out of context , and read in a way i hadn't intended it. I tend to stay clear from him.

If you don't agree with everything he says you are racist.

I think it's all garbage. If the voice is going to have little to no impact on decisions then why bother with it at all. What's the actual point of it, so a group of people can get a little win for a moment in time and then the system just chugs along anyway? The system needs to change, the decisions made within that are meaningless IMO.

The optimist would say you push incrementally towards a better future. Back when Winmar stood up against being abaused this point seemed a very long way away and there was plenty of push back. Make a move and keep pushing forward a bit at a time. Means little to most people but little wins can feel pretty huge when it's your issue.
