Funny you should say that. I have been at dad's this afternoon, raking up the winter leaves from his front and back garden. It took me two hours, and I got two bin bags full of them, but I enjoyed doing it for him. I didn't feel the cold once I got started, and it was a nice distraction. We can't have his garden falling into disrepair. Just a few days before he died, he was on step ladders, with shears, trimming a tree. I hope I can do that at 69.Sorry to hear that, our family has lost a few in the last couple of years. It's pretty tough to deal with, especially under that circumstance. You expect surgery to just work out with modern medicine.
I've started planting trees and plants up in the country for my family members and friends when they go. Being an Aussie idiot some are kind of smart arse choices. My mother in law got a plant called a Monstera ( I actually got on well with her but couldn't let the stereotype go, my cousin got this prickly aloe vera thing because he was prickly with a soft centre etc. It's actually a good way to keep them in you mind and the process of fitting the plant to the person is actually a pretty good way to think about the essence of the person and you have to tend them so think about them regularly. So far they've all survived which might have ruined it a bit otherwise. If you've got a bit of garden it might be a good way to process it all.
