IMO the bullshit was the messaging around it. Government is used to manipulating people so they kept on lying (masks not being needed, vaccines not having adverse events) or at least projecting false certainty (covid not airborne, vaccine stopping transmission). Too many spin doctors.

This is what generates a lack of trust in the populace. You know the government is basically lying to you most of the time. I happen to think that they're generally doing it for the right reasons and it's incompetence that leads them to choose a shitty course of action, but it's easy to interpret it as malice, that they're actually trying to do the wrong thing for their own benefit.

I hope but doubt that the outcome of this is that government gets better at being honest with people. Seems unlikely though.

Governments are always going to be clumsy in how they manage this kind of thing though. We expect perfection in everything these days when governments are a bunch of public servants talking to dull witted suits who have to sell the messages back and make quick calls even when they don't understand everything they are being asked to. Most conspiracies are just made up or exaggerated I imagine, but governments and corporations do act in abhorrent ways. A lot of it isn't hidden but we all want to be the first call it out and the weirder and more crazy it gets the more people riff off it and add bits on. 9/11 was weird and maybe a conspiracy but I can't really see why they'd need to do something so drastic to start a war. Sometimes it's easier to believe that someone higher up was to blame to deal with the unfathomable nature of the act.

jFK looks like it was possibly some kind of inside job though. Things usually come out over time like Iran contra and US interference in South America though so who knows for sure. Probably thinks like MLK were also CIA or FBI jobs because the governments of the time were genuinely worried about a black uprising. Looks like most illegal drug prohibition was to suppress it.

Area 51 has had a bunch of supposed former employees speaking out but nobody takes them seriously. I have no doubt there’s been an interview with an older male with a blurred face and a changed voice on a show like 60 minutes being interviewed about the CIA killing JFK. No one takes them seriously. Perhaps rightfully so, without evidence their statements are worthless.

I just don’t buy the idea that conspiracy theories need every single person to keep quiet when we know it’s not true.

Regardless of their veracity....Conspiracy Theories have an indelible effect on the mind and the imagination of a young child. I was maybe 6 or 7 when Harold HOLT was declared missing off Cheviot Beach near Portsea. Now my family had a beach house down there and I remember many of the subsequent summers searching the beaches down there for clues.
My dad had echoed the conspiracies of the time , that a Chinese sub had picked him up off the coast.

My take and sentiment even at seven years of age was that some family member had domestic differences ...gone too far and buried him in the sand dunes.....left his gear at Cheviot...Voila ...mystery! Never to be solved.

The thing is though, after hearing the KENNEDY thing which continued ad nauseam well after the event and then Robert KENNEDY...Then the other KENNEDY accident killing that young women...all of those incidents including HOLT used to swirl around in my head...I thought anything was conceivably plausible.

The spirit of the times throughout the sixties seventies was ripe for conspiracies of that ilk. The conspiracies grew almost exponentially ...out doing each other as they occurred.
Its hard not to love a good theory!

9/11 was as much possible conspiracy as it was opportunity since you don't exact take pieces of sovereign nations as a group and half arse poking the presumably most powerful nation on the planet and not expect for that bear to boot your arse back in some capacity. Much like, you can very well claim things like the moon landing was faked in a studio and we're on a plane and just haven't reached the edge yet without then considering how one would hide that sort of explosion and just how many people would then have been needed to fake it and STFU about it being round and not exactly spherical.

Things like are there lizardmen amongst us and was JFK an inside job is as much a "yeah people probably knew things or heard things and disregarded" until aspects of humanity then decided "you know what, stuff it" and engaged it anyway, but then how much of something like that is inside knowledge of "well we heard murmours 5th hand" and the other people involved being straight pricks just because?

Me, I love the Roswell alien stuff, universe big place, would be very shizen if this was it, this was the apex of civilization, us primatives who still can't get over killing each other for minor power instances or just to feel better tomorrow. My thought is less afraid and more a thing about linguistics and phonetics, like we're using things we understand without comprehending what others might then comprehend.

If we assume we're just scraping surfaces of quantum mechanics and these advanced instances have already mastered things like interstellar travelling mechanism that doesn't take millennia like light, why would they be using our modus of operandi to understand such primitive instances?

So it'd be more of a they're off on their own adventures and we're stuck in the one system on the one planet type deal with instruments less able to pierce that veil, akin to say the geth in mass effect and the perseus veil stuff. "Not been seen in thousands of years, dunno what's going on beyond that veil", that is, if you believe any of the prehistoric instances of "but but humans cannae do this alone" type structures or things like not being able to really comprehend Roman concrete and why it lasts or held as strongly as it did until what, 5 years back for a 2000 year old entity?
