Man I miss dims sims. Of all varieties. Fish n chip shop fried. Trevor Barker oval steamed. Sth Melbourne market big boys. Lashings of soy sauce. It's the food of Friday nights, football and kings. Need to bring it to Ireland!
And decent pies and pasties too. The Irish obsession of a plastic piece of ham and a leaf of soggy iceberg lettuce in a sandwich is just criminal.

My family has a holiday house at one of the "hovels", it was self built by my mum's uncle. 20 years ago the town would have been an ideal location for a local version of "the hills have eyes". Now days it seems like people like to have a nice double story house in the middle of a swamp, the road is paved and the bridge and jetty are largly intact.
When i was a real young kid it was an adventure, the old footbridge had missing planks you had to jump across, and the whole thing swayed in the current. The foreshore had been a number of old boathouses. There were lots of boats moored permanently back then, and it was mostly holiday homes or retired people who wanted to spend all their time fishing. Some of the properties really only had a one room and an outhouse.

It was in the 80s a lot of dropouts and people on the dole went there as a cheap place to live.
They had a few crime spree's but the locals knew who it was and they practically got run out of town.
The house next to my family's had a guy move in who seemed to spend most of his time getting drunk or stoned. He's still there. He likes to borrow stuff without asking but he's mostly harmless.

My mate's family had a house in Noosa. Sigh.

My great grandmother was given a huge parcel of land in Gippsland that was pretty much a farm on a river, still got some of it but sold most of it. It was nothing special. Her sister as her wedding gift was given a huge chunk of the 90 mile beach. They sold most of it in the 1950s for millions. Someone had a go at making Seaspray a holiday resort and blew their cash on it. They are still loaded from the money they made out of it.

My grandmother had a few properties that she inherited at Inveloch and sold them in the 80s when no-one wanted them. I reckon I went there twice as a kid and thought it was the greatest shithole on earth. I never would have thought it would take off.

Morwell was a victim of local politics and town planning.

The Latrobe Valley got an influx of welfare class when we wanted them out of the city so you have people who don't have a living relative that's ever had a job.

Yeah pretty much spot on McLoughlins and Manns beach are pretty much farked , One nice house for every 10 shanty's

It's too far from Melbourne to invest in. Metung is the only place between Lakes Entrance and Inveloch that has enough money thrown at it to look neat. Venus Bay and Fish Creek have a few city types living up there and will probably improve pretty quickly.

Metung pub is fantastic on a nice day

We definitely need a "Bullsh*t, Bitterness and Banh Mi" thread where 95% of this thread can go immediately!!
I was thinking the same thing. Although I was going to call it ‘Crap that I don’t give a s**t about’. Would save a lot time trying to find the posts worth reading. Then again, I could just watch out for the doctor’s efforts. Always quality.

There's nothing close to Australian pies and pasties here is there, especially the pies. I've had some decent sausage rolls here.

Seriously sitting here considering starting a dim sim business. Call it Plugga's Dimmies. Tiny shop pumping out dimmies, just 3 styles, fried, steamed and Sth Melbourne. Sell em cheap enough. Pull a van out front of every GAA and hurling match you can get to. Could take off!

Metung and the Tambo River are one of God's hidden treasures. Have been visiting yearly for nearly 40 years.

Metung, especially the island across from the pub, has some serious ‘old money’. Went to a wedding there a few years back & it was dripping with cash.

You'd think they'd have decent baked goods there. Cornwall and Wales can make a pastie. What happened to the Irish?
