I have real Le Cresuet but I just use the aldi knock offs cause I don't want to wreck the real ones

My mum gave me one of the Aldi ones and it was genuinely heavy. It was huge though. I think my wife sent it to the op shop. It mysteriously disappeared.

Le Creuset can generally be repaired/reconditioned as they do enamels and such, so unless you've scratched the ever bejesus out of it, you might still be able to recover them for a shorter outlay if plan to continue use.

As my future plans have smokers and such in them, I decided to go Brazil and Tramonita for my replacements, they're also having a sale on now BTW if you're looking at like for like replacements, so say what might have been $800 can be 40-60% off at present.

The Aldi ones weigh about 35 kilos. I think I scrubbed the glassy finish off and that's why it stained. Might have ruined the look of it, still works okay I guess. Very disappointed still. It would go to the bush except that I looked up how much it would cost to get a new one, all of a sudden it doesn't look as bad.
I have a few pieces, the most impractical is a wok.

Yep that’s right a cast iron le creuset wok, I’d love to see the arms that can flip a stir fry in that baby. Now we have one that some chef was flogging it’s light and after proper seasoning it works like a charm.

Yeah, I bought one of those Aussie made woks that you need to season. It wasn't as good as I hoped for the money but still pretty good. Even after heaps of use it gives a metal taste if anything sits in it for more than 10 minutes.

I have abraded the surface off apparently. I think I'll live with it and hope that it gets a bit less yellow with use. I'm a tight arse. I mostly use SS ones anyway. They are only good for when you need to shove something in the oven after cooking on the stove.

For any soccer fans out there, particularly Liverpool fans, Diago Jota and his brother just died in a car accident.

Absolutely devastating news.
Don’t follow soccer and have no idea who this is but this is so sad for parents to lose 2 of their kids in such a tragedy.

Evidentially he only just married aswell.

Life is fickle and can be short.

RIP

I absolutely loathe Liverpool but Jota was a very good player, just had the knack being a match winner.

Yeah he got married 2 weeks ago. Unbelievably sad

It’s hard to take in. Just 28 and married for less than two weeks. He and his now wife have three small children. As you said, his brother was also killed in the crash. What devastation for the family. He was a very good player,, and by all accounts a quiet family man. Stunning news. RIP.

Anyone feel for Sam Konstas right now? National hero on debut! Now barely hanging on and no wiggle room- he has to play a straight bat now- in a straight jacket. That Bumrah adventure was a scorpion!

This is one hell of a winning streak!

Émilien, the most successful contestant in the history of the French quiz show Les 12 Coups de Midi, won a total of 16 cars during his 647 consecutive appearances from September 2023 to July 2025.

Each time he solved a "Mystery Star" (a special challenge on the show), he won a prize package that always included a car.

However, Émilien later revealed that he only kept one of the cars. The others were either sold or given to friends and family, as he didn’t need them and didn’t have space to store them.

In total, he won over €2.5 million in cash and prizes throughout his run.

Hot weather warning issued. This weekend will be 32 degrees here in Manchester, meaning it will be around 40 indoors and sleeping will be very difficult. London and the south-east will be around 37. I think we might get a national record somewhere. It’s too hot for us to cope with.

Why don’t you guys buy air conditioners?

Has the UK Government banned them?

Yeah I used to live over there 20 years ago, never any need for aircon (maybe one day every 3 years or so).

The only hard thing about climate is always the predictability of it. If it's always hot then houses get built to cope with it. If it's always cold then houses get built to cope with it. It's just when you have unseasonably hot or cold days that people die.

In winter I miss the light not the heat, 23 sunny with a light breeze Is perfect imo.
Agreed! On the rare occasions we get close to 30 it becomes a struggle because the houses here are built to keep warmth in. The next few will be like living in a furnace. Our garden is south facing, so the sun will be on the windows all day.

Get the blinds down and try and keep the place locked up. If it get too hot the smart move is the major shopping malls, pictures etc.

We have Westfield shopping centres that have just about anything you can need, food court etc. I have occasionally had to grab the kids and hit the beach then the shopping centre when we’ve had power failures.

Once the house is too hot without aircon it’s all over you can’t cool in down until the night brings cooler temps and sometimes here even that is no relief. It can be 35 and humid long into the night here which is very unpleasant. I’ve got this place air conditioned now but brown outs as they call them are always a threat.

Good luck with the heat, just remember the basics like staying hydrated.

An old Aussie trick to deal with the heat is to rub some tiger balm on your scrotum before going to sleep. It helps when there's no AC..
