As a fellow Muslim, I for one praise and encourage our trans overlord.

Almost has the full beard going too!
Yeah, anyone know what they started as and what direction they're headed? Kinda hard to tell.......

Although I don't think it matters much to our muslim brethren......

It's haram because the actions are harmful to humanity. Same reasoning for drugs, alcohol, etc. I reverted 2-3 years ago but I'm not very devout (although I'd like to eventually be) and definitely not an expert lol

The entire concept of haram (and the equivalents in other religions) is basically my entire problem with religion. It's great if just used as a concept for helping people live a moral life. It's ****ed when it inevitably goes beyond that. Don't eat pork; don't wear silk; no sex outside marriage; and of course never consider that another religion might have something useful to say. Add arbitrary or self-serving rules to give you a stick to punish your flock with.

That said, I quite like the prohibition of riba; coming around to the view that interest/usury is a pretty shit way to run an economic system.

If you don't want to live to those values that's fine.

Completely agree, except in practice fundamentalist believers inevitably decide that everyone else needs to live by the same values as them - The Crusades, the Inquisition, Jihad, persecution of religious minorities in every religious country ever. The very existence of the word heresy/heretic tells us that it's not as simple as people just letting others live, unfortunately.

Nah, that's not true. If you do enough research of Islam you'd probably have a different view. Lots of people are simply uneducated, through no real fault of their own.

And yes, there's extremists that hijack every religion. That doesn't make the teachings themselves extreme. Islam doesn't promote anything about not letting others live.

Personally I was atheist until I decided to be more open to learning about not just Islam but all religion, including Greek Orthodox which I was very loosely a part of as a kid. When I was atheist I was of the belief that we're all connected by a central consciousness, and Islam lines up with that more than any other religion I've studied.

Not blaming Islam specifically, I don't see it as any better or worse than any other religion. But in all the religions the teachings (which as you say may not be extreme) can be misused for self-serving or downright evil purposes by those who have power or want it. At some point the common element is that religions fundamentally do the us vs them thing which is very very easy to manipulate.

Yes that's right but a large majority don't use it for that purpose. Easy to manipulate for extremists - these types are condemned in Islam, and I'm sure other religions. Considering how many people globally are religious, the extremists probably make up 1 or 2%.

Islam doesn't teach you to go and convince others to join, so personally I don't care what you believe in, but I wouldn't care regardless. It's your life, you're on your own path. I'm driven by logic. Facts, data, evidence. For me, the faith is less about fairytales and feel good stories that make me warm and fuzzy, it's more about trying to better understand my existence and purpose, and a lot of the Islamic explanations for creation match that of the scientific ones, just different wording (I called it consciousness, they call it Allah).

You say how easy it is to divide people on religion well look at what's happening in politics. You'll find extemists in everything.

Yeah I'm uncomfortable with people picking a side in anything (except sport obviously). If you tie your self-image to a particular side of politics or a particular religion or a particular youtuber or whatever then you're setting yourself up for bad times imo.

Couldn't agree more.
