Did it during covid. Lost some money. The bitcoin pieces that I had were the only ones that made any money, some fully busted. It's not something that you can have a toe in the water of. You need to research it properly. Wish I'd put it in shares instead.
Nah, don't research it properly. The deeper you go down the rabbit hole the more likely you are to get suckered.
They all have their white papers and talk about their governance and uses, blah, blah, blah. It's all crap.

Bitcoin will probably still go up, but the rest are ponzi schemes, if they sound good to you it probably means you're somebody else's exit liquidity.

I fell for it a bit with crypto.com now I get cash back in their proprietary coin but then I trade it for bitcoin right away

Got a friend who is trading it constantly. Buying low , selling high.
He claims to make a lot .
Have my doubts though.

A lot of crypto will never go anywhere and will fail like so many tech stocks that rose and died in the .com bubble. But some of those stocks that rose during the tech explosion have become heavy hitters and market leaders. Use cases for blockchain technology are growing and it's inevitable that it will become more integrated into the mainstream. Integration most likely to be driven by the financial and banking sector because they will make more money from using that technology. They're already devoting massive resources to developing blockchain use cases. Just a question of time. I'm not a trader but do have some long term holds in crypto that I think will eventually escalate in value. Well worth some investment I reckon.

If blockchain is useful for banks, they'll surely just make their own.

I doubt any of the thousands of blockchains out there are ever going to be incorporated into major banking systems.

Already being trialled on international transactions by the largest FX clearing house in the U.S. Smart contracts way more efficient for processing transactions. And way cheaper. Only a matter of time.

They do the same as the US but offer it without the aggression was what I meant.
They look pretty aggressive to me, using coast guard vessels to block access, fire water canon etc.
Threats and abuse through state run media, I think they’re more overtly aggressive without a doubt. Anyway it’s always the same despite the crap we talk might is right.

I have some gold and silver I add to from time to time, if you don’t hold it you don’t own it. Probably keep a bit more cash than I should as well but if buffet has a high % for him it’s good enough for me.

I have a cousin who was at the absolute top of the game in the states and a brother in law here who’s pretty high up with Merrill lynch. Ironically my US cousin was very high up as a young man at Merrill lynch, youngest ever VP, head of European acquisition's etc.

I’ve just been watching the foxtel grand final day 😡. Seriously this is our roll of the dice for me, time to deliver.

Idiosyncratic I know and potentially taking the piss with 'Random' but does anybody have one of these?

Empress ZOIA
Hologram Microcosm
Chase Bliss Mood/Habit
Montreal Assembly Count to 5
Soma Cosmos

I own quite a few of them and thinking about adding the Cosmos. Doubling up? Overkill?
It's all overkill I know.

Not sure about that. We hear a very biased version of everything. We run a US narrative where they want war with them.

It's like that meme where they have a map of china and the byline says if China didn't want war they wouldn't keep moving their country closer to our bases. They show how may bases surround China and are throughout the pacific.

Islanders based overseas and sending money back home is one of the largest revenue sources for many Pacific Island communities. It's over a billion dollars a year now in Fiji, and growing in the face of expanding labour schemes in Australia and NZ. I have been remitting money every week for nearly 20 years to support family and fund development at the village level.

The last of my fathers sisters (my Aunt) passed away last week and I am obligated to send money again for that.

The cost per transaction has been exorbitant for a long time and Pacific Island Nations have been trying to turn to the block chain to find ways to remit money more cheaply.

Nothing justifies it but they were also provoked. The US put in a puppet government and orchestrated a war for profit and destabilisation of other super powers. No-one is saying Russia are good guys either.

China is a good model. They do the same thing where they tie countries up in their financial orbit but through soft diplomacy. Paying for infrastructure in poor nations instead of flattening them. Doesn't mean they won't turn nasty at some point but right now they are a better world citizen than most of the western nations.
Sorry, but the area I work in means I get daily updates of defence briefings and news. If you think China is a good corporate citizen, then you need some time off the crack pipe. They are openly aggressive towards a number of nations in international waters and others exclusive economic zones. They have injured sailors from a number of different nations navies by their actions. They are the state actor behind huge amounts of third party attempted cyber attacks against nations systems and resource systems. Australia alone has hundreds of attempted cyber attacks per day against our government systems and our utilities. These aren't bored nerds looking for some amusement, these are genuine attempts to disrupt and cause cost and havoc.

They have been responsible for the single biggest military build up since WW2. Their leader has openly declared their desire to make good on their "century of shame".....

They are the single biggest threat to peace in our region........

When a Labor government has re-prioritised our defence acquisitions so we can fast-track the addition of new frigates with the biggest priority being how quickly we can have them in service, you know the situation is tense.

The situation is tense because we have signed on to a horrendous AUKUS deal that is tying us to the US and their aggressive pacific agenda. I never said they were a good corporate citizen, they just have a less military driven model. The US get rich off arms so want perpetual wars. China will sign you on to a permanent debt cycle but won't bomb you.The World Bank does the same thing to poor countries so it's not like they are the bad guys stepping out into rare territory.

They are all about making money and trading. They want to sell the world their manufactured goods. Killing lots of people is bad for business.

Of course we get cyber attacks. Israel, the US, Russia even countries like Iran do it. It's what countries do to each other. We don't do it back because the US do a lot of our dirty business for us. Pine Gap isn't a kiosk.

If the west wasn't constantly threatening their access to shipping lanes and pushing flash points they wouldn't get aggressive back.

Less military driven!! Let me repeat, the greatest military build-up since world-war 2!!! In numbers, their navy is now bigger than the USA's! They have built illegal artificial islands in international waters and established military bases on them!! They have instigated confrontations with the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, India, Australia........but yeah, the problem is the USA....

Lose the undergrad anti-USA schtick, it's intellectually unbecoming......

Yeah I find it pretty difficult to defend China. They're a real threat.

I reckon we are going to see some crazy developments come from them regarding cyber warfare.

They've got our online activities, they've got our biometric data.

I don't think it will be too long until there are blackmail schemes of a completely unprecedented scale. It's one area where I get real tinfoil hat about, but I reckon those rub and tug places on every street in the Western world is a part of it. Reckon they would have caught thousands of elected officials with their pants down.

Also how's their little genocide in Xinjiang going? Haven't heard anything about that in a while.

Nearly all because the US threaten the South China Sea trade route. Anyone that can't see that the US is the most aggressive force in the world and responsible for more regime changes, war and suffering than any of the "bad guys" isn't looking.

I think you're badly misguided on who represents a threat in the South China Sea......

China basically think its their own bit of ocean because it says China in it. Never mind that its 50m off Vietnam's beach and the entire length of Vietnam away from China.
They even found an ancient piece of parchment that says something vague about it belonging to China , which they claim legitimises everything, but doesn't really.

If you have any fancy crockery that gets called "China " watch out , they'll be coming for it.

Meanwhile the USA are not trying to claim anything or prevent any ships from travelling in that area.

How should Vietnam feel about their Sea Trade Route?
Brunei.
Hmmmm particularly off the coast of Borneo there's oil under them there waves . Black Gold, Texas Tea.

Is it a genocide though? I'm not arguing that they are good guys. They just have a different model for taking over countries and it does't include constant wars.
