We threw away the French deal and paid out billions and now are paying for something that we'll never get. The contracting says straight out that we only get them if they have too many and they aren't building enough to satisfy themselves. It's protection racket money. The bases are for the US not us. We'll never see the subs but we'll have to dispose of their waste and pay for them to have a base here.

The old Collins class will still be chugging along in 20 years time because we won't be getting anything else now.
Firstly, it's a base, not bases, it's HMAS Stirling. It has been there for a while, we didn't just build it for the yanks - and the Poms will be rotating Astutes through there as well !! And the Collins will not be capable of still chugging along in 20 years because that would be well in excess of the certifiable life on their hulls! They were supposed to commence decommissioning as of next year and the life extension program is adding 10 years!

Errr...

Shit got hacked immediately.
Delays.
Cost Blowouts.
French had a cry it couldn't confirm shit.
USA came in with a nuclear option and we went "thanks".

What part of that is us throwing it away?

The TDS thing is like the left's use of racism as a catch all for any criticism. Just because you like the guy doesn't necessarily mean everything he does is right.
I don't like the guy, I think he's certifiable, but I do love the way self-declared "centre-left" people lose their shit over the guy and start babbling wild conspiracy theories whenever his name is mentioned.

I also think a lot of western democracies would benefit from a leader that actually appears to put his own country first, rather than simply facilitating a global leftist agenda, whilst tugging their forelocks in deference to left-captured unelected bloated bureaucracies like the WHO, WEF and UN....

As an example, the USA taxpayers have been reemed to the tune of tens/hundreds of billions of dollars via USAID which has been morphed into a massive slush fund for a global leftist agenda. Trumps administration cleaning that up is in the best interests of those they serve.

Then if they decommission them all, we will have nothing for 20 years. Best case is 2032 but they are nowhere near being on track to give us any then. If they deliver any it will be more 20 years than 5 years.

Stirling will have to be refitted for nuclear subs. That's not cheap and if we aren't able to use it it is for them.

Correct. The French were rorting that deal from day one, and the government eventually caught on and put a stop to it.

It's enough to say I have reasonable information on the program for the new nuke subs, from a professional perspective, and you have no idea what you are talking about. All 3 nations are seriously going at a million miles an hour behind the scenes and almost every milestone has been hit - nothing that was announced as an objective or a milestone has not been achieved so far. There is so much going on that does not make the press that it is laughable. We have already done a minor port maintenance on a Virginia in Perth, we have hundreds of people in the USA being trained to be able to operate and sustain Virginia's, and they have been there for a while. Companies in Australia are already undergoing qualification to be able to supply into the USA program, and the same is happening for the UK.

Australia is trying to add to the to the USA supply capacity specifically so that we CAN have subs from them.....

Him and his followers are the biggest conspiracy theorists on the internet. Both sides are addicted to outrage and go off at any rage bait that is shown to them. Algos feed you a constant stream of content that makes your cortisol spike and you become addicted to the response.

They also allow us to feel morally superior to the "others" and make fun of each other. No-one is going to fix anything and government isn't for the people. Just enjoy your life and have low expectations and everything will probably be fine or fine-ish.

USAID was used by the government to bring about regime change, push US corporations into new markets, spy etc. They are a menace but do have an arm that let a small percentage go to real programs helping the poorest nations.

The whole US system has been run to benefit American corporations. USAID is now being used to distract the people form the take over of their political systems by tech oligarchs. I can't see anything good coming out of it. It's pretty much bringing in cane toads to deal with the cane beetles.

We'll see I guess. I'm not holding my breath. Trump will stop it going through. They get the money even if they don't supply them.

Correct. The French were rorting that deal from day one, and the government eventually caught on and put a stop to it.

We stupidly tried to build them and should have just ordered something already being built. Trying to create our own industry wasn't beneficial. Stupid waste of money and politically reckless to end the deal. We should have renegotiated to get a better deal.

Trump delusion syndrome is also the supporters of him that think he has some kid of messianic quality. He's an destabilising force inside and outside the US. He's doing a few good things and shaking things up but he's doing a lot of damage through misrepresenting situations and actively breaking systems.

He's eroding a lot of safety nets designed to protect democracy and consumers. He's also working with big tech to bring in an age of surveillance and AI authoritarianism. That's fine if the US want that but he's saying he's libertarian when convenient.

Trump is the front man for a whole lot of people that finance him. He's not really that interesting in himself other than being a conduit for extreme political change in the US and rest of the world.

His group are either going to blow up the world up or become a brutalising pirate nation without the facade of being the world sheriff and save the US from being a falling empire. None of it is good for us here.
Now we’re getting somewhere, and who is it backing him? 😈

We already have our own industry - the problem was that we opened the door to rorts by, once again, insisting on design changes. The original design was, ironically, nuke powered, not diesel.

Israel, tech companies and techbros like Musk and Thiel, aerospace groups, Russia, corporations that are second in line, big polluters, messianic christians, tobacco, energy companies etc.

Nuclear was considered and ruled out prior to the Collins construction, because it was thought that it would not be able to be adequately supported without any Nuclear Power infrastructure in Australia.

Not sure what's changed.

Well, we're going to be building nuclear subs here, and outside of the stuff that boils the kettle, everything else is just the same as any other sub.....

Even if we did throw it away, so what? The French deal should never have been signed. The US deal is significantly better, and we will end up with submarines that aren’t obsolete by the time they’re in the water

Fukushima also happened, so nuclear was seen as a "why are we doing dis when they go boom yoose guz suck..." type instance at the time. So a sizeable change is no further catastrophic meltdowns occurring.

It was more the rewriting of history that I took issue with, I mean hell it was pretty much on all tabloids when SCoMo and Pyyyyne signed that we got French defense deal got breached and hackers got mundo information which for those playing at home generally meant China and Russia, so that was immediately a red flag ABORT situation.

Then defence circles were mostly "swap to diesel, swap back to nuclear later" situation, but thankfully the public told ScoMo "since you like it so much outside AUS, here's a free vacation" and they got punted out of office.

Much like how VIC ALP tore up Dennis' dodgy deal to be told "why did you tear dis up? I only rushed it through haphazardly, yoose are bad peoples. BOO THEM!!!" this just can;t fly that anyone rubbishes tearing up that contract, it was a lemon and leaked like the titanic.

No I mean the France deal, from what I got told the subs were nuke - fuku happened - swapped to diesel with nuke re-conversion backdated to later was the play decided upon.

Granted this was air force and not navy peeps so grain of salt.

WTF !!!

Yeah we all know what Ye would say. I think his favourite ethnic group is just representative of the existing power structures. As a general rule society is currently structured to give outsize benefits to people who are high IQ, strong verbal intelligence, well networked, and hard-working. It's a red herring to slate that back to a particular ethnic group because it's everyone who falls into that bucket who benefits from the current state of affairs.

Not sure what you're talking about here - Scomo inherited the French deal and was also the one that pulled the plug on it! He was in office when we inked the AUKUS deal.........

I kind of figure he's got that old man thing happening, where they start to realise they can get away with anything , so they test it, like the old buggers that will walk around in the street with no pants on sort of thing.
Prince Phillip used to do it all the time, but had no-where near as much scope as the Pres of the USA.

Have you any evidence, like pictures, to substantiate your claims about the prince? PS I am not a fan of that clown Trump.
