Righto I'll be the one who disagrees - what Marty Sheagold said was not funny.

The chorus of defensive insecure blokes who defend him tbh is quite sad.

For things to get better for women it is blokes who need to call crap out and what he said including saying that endometritis is not real is just pathetic.

Part of me thinks there should not be an audience for his juvenile incorrect crap but it needs calling out it causes damage.

Yep sure there will be responses free speech etc comes with responsibility. It is not funny and should not get the attention it does ie those defending it opposed to calling out the bs.

The joke may not have been funny, depending on your tastes, but when it comes to women's sport, I'm sick of people putting icing on a turd and demanding I believe it's a cake!! Some of it is great, some of it is schoolboy standard! And you want more pay, sell more tickets and TV rights!! Raise revenue!!!

I'm not one that likes soccer, to me that and NFL just have far too much dead time to care for it, it's like you have chess that is a fixed board so every move is integral to what gets sacrificed for what gain and when. When translated to sport like soccer what that means is the back and forth instances to try and poke holes through as the field is then wider or longer than a board and nothing gets sacrificed. Or in the case of NFL it gets interrupted with someone telling you off randomly.

So yeah never got into those sports, women cricket though, bats are the same, balls are the same, they use the same fields and pitches it's the obvious things as they don't the same muscle mass to be as quick, or hit as far for the 'spectacle' side. So more power to equality in that space as the game is still pure so WGAF who plays it. I imagine it's similar to other sporting codes if you're there for the sport as opposed to "things" attached to it.

Agree with you re Sheargold though, like it or not blokes a public figure so needs to be held to a standard and that's just not it. Nor the aftermath from as all that ends up is hurt feelings and people being slighted for no good reason.

I actually think the majority of men would be happy to get behind women's sport if it's truly entertaining. Look at how highly regarded some of the female UFC fighters have been. A few were sceptical at first but when it became clear that it had the potential to be really entertaining, people changed their tune.

I'd love to see the aflw become enjoyable to watch. It hasn't happened for me yet.

So instead let's blow smoke and talk about erecting statues in honour of mediocrity so we look like we care.

And even if it was good to watch, there should be a completely different set of rules for women's sport as far as the media goes?

More tokenism we don't need. It's actually disrespectful.

About 5 AFLW Bulldogs games last season because my niece plays for them. Otherwise it would be zero.

Can't remember ever going to a womens sports event. Maybe the AO 30 years ago the one and only time I went to the tennis, but I hate all tennis not just womens.

I do like watching Alana King bowl, love a quality leggie. Thought it was great she and Sutherland got their names on the board for their achievements in the test. Almost went to the test but couldn't make it.

I casually watch the odd Saints AFLW game but not really interested in committing to another sports side. It's definitely getting a better standard and might get to be a very good league one day. Again it's for women to experience the sport for themselves. It's not for me to give judge either way.

Shergold has a schtick that is borderline offensive towards a lot of things. You don't actually feel like he means 90% of what he says, he straddles the controversial. The endometriosis should be taken as offensive because it is like joking about any illness. More likely to get people pissed off that make them laugh.

Honestly, anyone that listened to his show would think that it's stupid ranting of a guy playing the dickhead. Comedy can look really bad when you isolate small parts. When taken out and amplified and commented on it can become a pile on. I probably prefer people to vote with their wallet and stop supporting things that upset them than go on a witch hunt.

I find that troubling. You don't like someone you'd never heard of because of the way he's been portrayed in one media story. I'm progressive and a left leaning centrist but hate the pile on trial by media. His career is probably over but all of a sudden he's an unemployed person with no-one willing to touch him.

What if he goes and tops himself out of shame and confusion? It's a human being with a life and people. He's made a grave error but shouldn't get removed from public life because of it. Let him regain his reputation.

It's more an Aussism really, the Aussie mens captain is akin to the prime minister and all, methinks because it's a rep side that goes way back when whereas AFL has always been "local" rep as opposed to national rep. Thus higher standards and gentlemans game and what have you.

Granted I have mad bias with cricket being from where I am, it's largely that and the bora rings that keep us grounded in this place has history and respect that history, and I am very thankful it was cricket as the sport.

For me this is kind of why AFLW will fail in a way, it's far too tribal of nature and progressed too far for many to care enough to persist with. But something that has that history to it, where you're talking centuries ago and singular things, that people can latch onto and hold then pass on to others.

I only stopped going when my health deteriorated, as last thing I wanted was to black out in a random plastic seat near a few thousand people. But yeah, I got to as many games as I could in VIC previously that most train peeps knew me by my face.

As much as I agree with you and a good leggie is to die for as they just do things that seem unnatural with that ball, as a previous RFM my preference is for the long run up and try as fast as you can with a maybe 1 degree twist action to just be faster than your opponents hand eye in a test of will type bowler. As it was like sure, you have your plans, but you're just not as cerebral as those spinners but you still make it sing just a different tune.

So it was a Saffa, Shabnim Ismail that I was cheering on, as her action was like she could get there, she could be the one to approach 140km with control. It was what, early last year in their IPL she cracked 130km? Since it was in India I only saw highlights but gee that was special to see, even if she had retired from international as it showed that things could still progress and the womens game can still reach ever higher.
