I come in good faith.
Had an argument with a saints man last week.
Who is better Steele or Cunnington.
I know this is so dumb and probably disruptive but I would love to hear what you guys think and why?
Bias-awareness appreciated.

I absolutely loved Cunners, he was one of my favourite non Saints. At his best he was an absolute ball pig. They are so different that it's hard to compare. Steele is an accountable two way mid. Cunners was like something out of 90s footy. I would prefer peak Cunners if I had the choice between the two though.

I assume you got off the island OK.

Well, um, no I didn't. Was helping the elderly Swedish lady next door secure some shit in her backyard when she got a call from a friend around the corner who needed help. So by this stage there was a few of us getting around the neighbourhood giving a hand and time got away. Then they stopped the boats off the island. Yesterday when I briefly saw the link you posted above, the predicted line was going basically straight over my house. Checked again just now and the line is now just a little to the north (and I mean a little!) which is probably worse as they think the most chaos may happen just to the south of the eye.

My house is about a metre off the ground so hoping that will be ok from the storm surge. Back shed is in a lot of trouble, it's been set up as a little home studio and is in the lowest part of the block. Have removed most things of value from there and sandbagged. Surrounded by huge trees too so that's a bit of a worry.

Weather's getting crazy now, torrential rain, and yes, it's a bit, um, windy. 😎

Fingers crossed mate, sounds like it could be pretty rough.

Hope you're ok mate.

Where in S/E QLD are you?

Cheers mate, yeah it's a bit of a worry, seems the system has slowed down a bit, which means the very likelihood that it will intensify as it approaches the warmer, shallower waters near the coast. They're expecting landfall a bit later now, probably Friday afternoon, but there's a vibe now that shit's really about to go a bit cray cray. I'm at Amity Point on North Stradbroke Island. Not really Saints territory! In fact I'd only ever known of one other Saints supporter on the island and he left a few years ago. Surprising to find even one I guess. This is rugby league heartland. If ya have a look at the maps you'll see we're certainly in the firing line. Starting to realise I'll probably have to go to a friend's place on higher ground.

Looks pretty scary to me,
From what he's said, must be around......

Yeah the predicted landfall changed from yesterday (where it was going over my house) to what you've posted above. They have it heading a little more to the north now, I'm on Straddie, the island just below where that line goes through (which is Moreton Island).

Nice part of the world. I spent 5 years in Brisi. Lived at Redcliffe for the final 2. I try to get to either the Sunshine Coast or Byron Bay as often as I can now.

Anyway... wild times... hang in there mate.

Stay safe mate, utterly brilliant in what you and others did in helping those around you, is a testament to you, so yeah stay safe and you need anything hit us up.

Stay safe Dude.

Very happy to have received a complimentary room upgrade here in Albury to a room with a balcony.

So, rather than look at the petrol pumps, I look down on the petrol pumps.

Sure it was Albury petrol or was it from Wodonga? You never know with that pesky petroleum...

You good, mate?
Yeah all good thanks mate. Got a bit hairy there for a while with the wind making sounds I've never heard before, house was shaking for a bit and I started to think wtf I'd do if the roof blew off. Thankfully that didn't happen! 🤓

Lost power around 10ish last night, still out, might be "a while" before it's restored I'm hearing. A lot of trees down. Storm surge wasn't as big as it might have been, around here at least. Even though it passed by extremely close, seems most of the carnage is further south, gold coast and northern NSW. Have some friends in Mullumbimby and they've had a ridiculous amount of rain the last 24 hours and absolutely insane winds. Obviously Lismore is in for a lot of grief these coming days, bloody hell ya gotta feel for the folk down there. Still a lot of places that haven't been repaired since the '22 floods.

So all in all, feeling like we got a bit lucky around here. I'm taking that luck as a good omen for the upcoming Saints season. 👍

Good to hear mate.

Yeah Lismore cops it. I’ve been there during floods a couple of times as a mate of mine used to live there. He’d buy old houses, fix them up then sell them. He now lives on a property between Lismore and casino. His property got flooded in ‘22

But Lismore mate…. I don’t know how people stay there. It would have broken me by now.

Good to hear you’re okay. The day after a storm I always remember being mosquito free! And we’d all get out like a proper community and help clear driveways for people with important roles. And there would be a bonfire in every yard as we tidied up the fallen trees!

I remember a few really big storms in the islands and making the whole family go to bed fully clothed with boots on, because it felt like the timber framed house might go.

I’d pack suitcases with clothes and valuables in case I had to scramble in the dark of night.

The wind isn’t consistently strong. It gusts, putting enormous pressure on the building followed by pockets of calm and the building would spring back each time. Hairy is a good word.

When I was eventually able to buy a cement block house it was such a relief for the family during cyclones.
