He was doing the female athletes and trans bathroom stuff. I thought it was topical with what you'd talked about. Not trying to judge.
It is all bs culture wars garbage with a tinge of dog whistles racism with totally unachievable populist garbage.
It is a travesty that these creeps can exist in a democracy, even more people would vote for it.
You are correct real deep north redneck cult shit.

What a storm in a teacup.
She ****ed up, she knew she ****ed up, we should have all just moved on with her somewhat wiser now.
The Womby wasn't hurt and she learnt something.

Meanwhile there are sicko's who shoot, torture or purposely run over our native wildlife.
They are still living amongst us.
Literally the complete opposite of what happened.

I used to like car racing.

V8 Supercars just came onto tv.
Mustangs and something else made by GM driving around. Except underneath, they don't have Mustang or whateveritis chassis or components. And apparently they all have engines that were designed in the 1960s and i'm not sure if any have been used in production cars this century. Cars i can relate to= zero.
Kids from former touring car greats doing well. .... yeah.

None of the drivers from this series have a chance of becoming the next F1 driver.

Can't we at least have something we can relate to?
Rangers vs Hiluxes?
MG4's vs Tesla 3's?
Kids on illegal 500kw scooters, vs P Platers in Kia Picanto's and old ladies in Toyota Yaris's

Esky mower motor v drone propulsion garbage bin, the turns will be interesting at least.

Speaking of motor racing, tobacco companies looked far cooler on the cars than ****ing venture capital firms, aramco and tech companies.

From a tech company, I feel personally attacked...

I guess the big FO blower attached to the papaya is preferred after all. MORE MERCH GUYS, MORE MERCH IN GARAGE...

Back in the day i thought these things were just the coolest ever.
I had a Scalextric one.
It worked, later , when i smoked for a short time, I had a few packets of JPS.
( I didn't smoke BECAUSE of JPS, but i when i chose to smoke i chose the brand i thought was cool ).

Fair enough.

I saw a make Australia great again thing. fmd. This world we live in.
All the national press club speeches are online, it’s worth a look if you’re interested in whoever the guest is.

I wasn’t waiting around to watch Clive I was baby sitting my grandson and whatever I’d been watching ended and he came on. So it was playing in the background but I picked up quite a few of the things he spoke about.

He was big on the fact the labour and the coalition are a virtual mono party who had little interest in real change. Was high on some trump style cost cutting without actually citing anything he’d cut except waste. Spoke about how immigration was too high and had been used to fudge the books showing economic growth while living standards went backwards. Spoke about how it had exacerbated a housing crisis which he said was a national disgrace and so on.

Ran the two sexes trump stuff and how it was their position to outlaw treating kids with puberty blockers etc, no men in women’s sport.

Spoke about renewables being a joke and how not using our resources while we subsidised renewables was crazy. Then he got onto how lucky Australia was but how we’d wasted it and he had some ideas. Sounded monorail but wanted very fast trains in the 3 major cities to open up cheap housing and allow people to commute. Wanted Australia’s vast super wealth spend here instead of helping to drive the US economy. Wanted super to be available to young home buyers as a deposit and loans available capped at 3% on the rest with a maximum loan amount. Proposed a 15% levy on iron ore to pay of the national debt and so on.

Posters can paint it as a redneck wonderland rant but in reality it was a mix of populist proposals without any meat on the bone. He’d be hoping he can pinch a seat somewhere but without looking at the polling it seems unlikely. I wouldn’t characterise him as any different than any other minor party and probably less dangerous than the greens and teals. They all have an agenda which is trading off their vote to get radical minority policies up. Worth noting Clive was the biggest donor to the coalition for a long time and also gave quite a bit to labour, he’s been involved in politics and lobbying for decades.

Anyway he’s right about the state of the country and how we’ve wasted so many opportunities and we’re not leaving the place in great shape for our children and grandchildren.

NB: I was in and out and not really listening to what was being said with my full attention so I will have missed some of it. Seemed a lot of if you want change vote for us, pretty much what you’d expect.

This is like 80% true I reckon. I don't think living standards have particularly gone backwards but they've probably stopped improving.

But yeah successive governments of both stripes using immigration for growth is a disgrace. They just have nfi how to support the growth of real enduring economic value and jobs, so they just bring people in to create more temporary demand and further pump up the housing and banking markets.

I doubt Palmer has some magic solution to this but like most people I'd probably try anything at this point.

We need to stop making housing an investment, hell the phrase "investment property" needs to be gone from the English speaking world.

It is money that is unproductive and that will also mean house prices must go down.

Need to start funding social services and education and make raising a child possible.

So people who can't afford a home also won't be able to rent a home?

Ironic that if the people profiting from our resources paid tax and royalties, we'd be super rich. Immigration is great to stay out of recession but at some point every piece of infrastructure becomes strained. We are at that pinch point where housing, transport. roads, hospitals, schools etc are all pushed to breaking point.

No politics

Oh crap wrong site , carry on

Maybe we should we have a populism vs. elitism, religious vs. secular, nationalism vs. globalism, and authoritarian vs. libertarian thread.

SRP exists for those who wish to deep dive politico instances, there's no reason for us to have dedicated things over here to watch like a hawk since you know, it will get nasty, it's the nature of such instances.

All we ask is that people remain respectful when discussing things.

Look at norway and weep, it is a an economic travesty for how er pissed away our resources and a party is over.

Wealth inequality is rampant, and yet the so called "golden age of capitalism" happened when the rich and corporations paid their taxes.

Agreed.

Any of you guys ever deal with people not paying invoices? I've got a guy that owes me $200 from last September, reached out to him a few times, assured me he'd pay etc. Now it's all radio silence.

I know it's only $200, but not really sure what to do. Any experience with debt collectors? Or should I just forget it?

1st step: Document everything.
If you chatted and they scratched their balls when they said "yeah tomorrow..." then write it, explain how they played with themselves whilst playing dumb.
If you can get them admitting to delaying, if you can get it in writing, if you have things they sent previously, document everything.

2nd Step: Chat with local PO or if you have knowledge or people, free legal rep things to get a certified letter with letterhead to make a demand;

'You owe me $200, pay this in 2 weeks or set up a payment plan if unable of we'll seek punitive damages through magistrates small claim" and send it.

Definitely don't: Just forget it.

If they're ghosting you that helps, but the certified letter instance is to confirm current address, that yes they are aware you are seeking remuneration and that they will need to respond, usually also in writing.

If they then call, try to ensure you can record that call, use the "usual" of trying so many times, got silence just making sure you don't get screwed again so recording and downplay it as much as you can.

Then if they delay or do whatever you have evidence to seek damages and ways to garnish them from wherever they might go or whatever they might do if you actually escalate. I'd consider debt collecting escalation as that is usually taking assets to make up the cost, and there can be a cost involved depending on who you use.

Thanks for your post, it's a big help. Just with this one in particular, the problem being is that I did the work at his former rental address, and he's moved (presumably) back to Melbourne. So now I have no idea where he lives. All I have is a phone number, a name, and an email address.

Frankly, I wouldn't care if the debt collectors paid me $10 for the debt, provided they chase him down and make him pay. It's more about the principle than anything else.

Phones these days all have GPS that can be tracked, you also know he moved so know where he was and who he hung around with to also maybe get information about where he might actually be, since a rental has owners who would need to be informed or new tenants and things for example.

So just deal with what you do have, as you have his name, his phone, his email, where he was, who he hung with or was around, so you essentially have more than you think you do if you think "I need to find this person and will do whatever it takes".

I have to disagree with fly here. $200 is a cheap lesson for you and it's not an amount worth worrying about.
1. Send him a final notice and offer a payment plan. Advise that if a response is not forthcoming by xxx date the debt will be sold to a collection agency and do not backtrack on the terms stated in the final notice.
2. If no response comes, just sell the debt. Not sure $200 is even worth buying for an agency but it's the threat you're leveraging.
3. Take the lesson and move on.
