They are already gone but they like to feel free. Most western nations are doing the shit we used to accuse China and Russia of. Mass surveillance, political arrests, blocking rights to protest etc.

Wish they'd block the right to protest in Melbourne.........it's reached the stage of performative art here, and the cause simply rotates the wording on the banners. They should go French and have "Cause de Jour". The only constant with them besides the weekly scheduling is the presence of Victorian Socialist Alliance banners........

The patriot act was the start of it. Now they use data to know more about you than you know yourself. They can track everything you do through your mobile phone. Any sense of freedom is an illusion already and it will only get more so.

I've seen the tech up close at defence trade events, and it's frightening. A simple mobile number or email address and they can have your entire digital footprint up in about 60 seconds, including your passwords, content, connections etc

It's really bizarre how much media coverage of him there is. It's like a monarch died. Most Aussies would never have heard of him. I only know him from seeing him being reposted saying controversial rage bait shit.

Everyone I know up here in Europe was straight on to it.......I think we get insulated from a lot of stuff in Oz, without realising it.......

It’s the one app that is encrypted and basically conversations cannot be leaked (only from people involved in the chat).

Much safer than regular IMessage apparently.

Because I don’t want the government - or anyone - snooping on my private conversations.

Most of my texting is private, aside from when I have to send a text message to an android user. All my internet traffic is private.

Government doesn’t need that information, so I won’t give it to them.

iMessage is encrypted, it’s messaging non iPhone users that is easily intercepted
