Coming from a European background, I think that it is a good idea. May deter many from considering the trip. Not so sure those that are already here qualify as refugees as costs a lot of money to get on the boat.

I think it will deter a large majority once world gets out, not many people would want to risk their lives across the sea to go to PNG which has its own serious issues with human rights

So here we are back in our own little huddle ;)

I'm not even going to look at the game thread. Just between us it was a disappointing game, and it sucks that we lost. :(

I see you've already started up a little bit of light discussion. Boat people and TV shows.

It just so hard to know how to help those people.
The system is so slow in processing them through the legal channels, they are so desperate to escape, and who wouldn't be, and they are scammed by the pirates.
And then, if they manage to get here, they are put in detention centres for months, years, while they are 'processed'.
And now they are going to be shunted off to PNG.

Talk about displaced persons.
Surely we can afford to be a little more compassionate - we are so very fortunate to live in a free country.

Processing time is the issue for me too. It's pretty much the only issue. Get the protocols happening so we can make a quick determination on whether the person should be given our help/citizenship.

Its a hard one, pretty funny considering how big our country is we can't fit them in somewhere.

Personally i don't have a problem with processing people taking a bit of time, as long as they are kept in decent conditions while they wait. The better the processing is the less criminals and bad people we get in, and more of the genuine people.

I'm not sure how long the average wait is, but i think to be there for months is reasonable, considering a lot of them come with no paperwork or ID

Yes, the last thing we want is for our society to be infiltrated by the insurgents, and it can take so long to process them when they arrive without any documents.

It would be so much better if their 'legal' applications could be processed more quickly in their home country so that they didn't have to resort to such desperate measures.

When your government wants to kill you i don't think that is much of an alternative :p.

I would rather we spend money on upgrading the facilities were boat people are kept rather than rushing through the cases and letting terrorists/career criminals slip through the cracks

Man dates have been cheap recently, no i'm not referring to taking a women to Macca's, i mean those fresh ones. I grew up with those crappy dried ones & these are very nice umm for the price.

Chop em up, bung them in some yoghurt , a little vanilla essence & bang! Gotta love simple quality food like that.

I’m Baaaaack!

I’ve done my time and now I’m back
As too is Mooney, and The Sack,
A week of silence is what I got
For use of language way too hot

I’m not complaining, I did the crime,
(As I search here vainly for a rhyme),
A Bomber’s fan slagged off at Bucks,
I told him ‘Hey! Your opinion sucks!’

Filters turned lewd words to mush
But my anger did not wish to hush,
An orifice of female persuasion
Seemed apposite on this occasion

But when a ‘u’ became a symbol (*)
(A trick, I thought, so very nimble)
My forum post became the cause
Of a heinous breach of BF laws

My Hotmail page has looked so sparse
No BF alerts to help time pass,
But now I’m back from being banned,
Glad to be home in Poster land

Our Magpie mods whose faith I’ve tested
Boast appendages that can’t be bested.
My thanks to those who wished me well,
And may the Bombers burn in hell!

He's back!

It's just sad you wasted a perfectly good ban on a Bombers supporter & not Carlflog.:p

My week-end is ruined - the scum won, we lost, the cricket is boring and no TV shows or movies to watch. What to do?
At least I am scoring well in Supercoach.
I'm not even scoring well in SC & i had Gaj as captain.:(

Rug up, go out to your vegie patch have a couple of scotches (whatever your preference)& look at the stars for a while.

Then get nice & toasty in bed & read a book as you drift off or spoil yourself with a nice hot bath, with a few scotches & nice book.

Hmmm, seems to be theme here.... reading that's it.

Red Wine, water and black coffee are my fav liquids. Have just finished a book and will go to library tomorrow. Too cold for star gazing but checked out broccoli and cauliflower this morning. Blanket on but not tired so on the computer checking out games and TV shows. Noticed Rizzoli and Isles is back, light viewing but have read all of Tess Gerristen books. She is the author of the series based on a female cop and coroner.

I'm familiar with the name of the show but that's it. Similar to Bones (i'm guessing not) or Law & order or the singing detective or...?

I had a milestone birthday last Tuesday, the day after Magpie Girl, which makes us both Cancerians. Went to a Thai restaurant with a few friends and celebrated quietly. Notice that I am none to specific about the numbers on the milestone.
