Is the Inventors/New Inventors a reality TV show just like Australian Idol, Star Search, the Voice, X-Factor, MKR etc???

Ie does someone who invents something and might eventually win a competition classified the same as a competition to find the best voice/singer, baker, juggler candlestick maker etc etc??

The guy who won the Great British Bakeoff was a lawyer and is now wanting to be a patissier...I mean baker.

Thank you in advance for your admission of defeat.

Also Hotdogs for that stupid late night quiz show

Obvioulsy has mummy issues....

I will never concede anything to a woman.

Unless it is a sit down to wee competition.

It hasn't been on for 2 or 3 years. It could have been so much better if they didn't have so many feel good judges. Get some hard headed marketing and production engineer people as well as finance people rather than just designers and feelgood "futurists' and science journos who just want to talk about what is good for the environment and if you can make it out of recycled materials.

It actually should be an hour show with decent background and technical info on a business channel or commercial TV where business people are on the panel rather than feel good academic and just designers. Kochie would make a great host compared to James O'Loghlin - move it from a good show to a great show.

Kochie can't be your everything REH.

There is no such thing as feeling good for everyone on any reality tv show.

They are all ****s.

Absolutely, you'd have to be some strange sort of a tool to want your toolishness magnified and sold to a TV audience for the chance of a small scrap of cash.

Assets to society each and every one of them.

Doesn't have to be my everything, just would do a shit load better job than James O'Loghlin did.

Anyway does the new inventors fall into the reality show category?

The show is finished, Foxtel has the reruns. A commercial station wouldn't make it better, it would have Eddy as the host not Kochie.

so, was just searching for wedding music on youtube (yeah i know).... think the choice is obvious!

You will have to get your Wingard move on tape and You Tube it for us.

Done correctly a commercial version would be shit load better. The whole aim of the inventions - except for those that were on the community episodes and the inventor wanted to give away the item - is to commercialise them.

Having people involved in producing, marketing and financing real products in the real world as judges will help assess the worth and likelihood of a new invention being commercially successful a lot better than most of the academic types and feel good types on the ABC judging panel. Nothing wrong with academics and feel good types but you need a better balance and correctly evaluating the likely success of a product. Agricultural scientist Chris Russell was an excellent judge. Some times when you had 3 products that their distinctive appeal was design, it made sense to have one or two designers on the judging panel.

But many times I was left saying to myself why didn't they ask about this or that or why didn't they tell us more about the testing procedures they went through. There was a lot of flim flam because the show had to be entertaining.

On balance the commercial stations would probably do a poor job but with the right approach with the right host they would leave the ABC production for dead. Its why a bloke like Koch as BOTH executive producer and host would be good because he understands the BS of TV but understands business and developing new products eg Personal Investment magazine, his business education docos, other publishing businesses etc.

Plus if it was on commercial station you would have better prizes. ANZ could offfer a $200k prize with a $300k loan at no interest paid back over 20 years rather than what the ABC offered. Maybe $100k of free marketing from a marketing company and/or $100k of free legal and/or business advise. You wont get that on the ABC because they can't be associated with commercial sponsors. The $50k of assistance from IP Australia was bloody useful but assistance from Austrade was useless unless the product was successfully selling in Oz and ready to expand overseas.

If it was on commercial TV, they would probably try to film the show a year or so in advance, and then air at the same times as product release.

Also, all products would have to be aimed at the retail market, not for industrial applications and the like. You'd probably also have a requirement that show sponsors gets first dibs on production or distribution.

Basically somewhere between Project Runway & The Dragon's Den.

In a sense but it is ultimately a show about altruism. While there is the potential for personal reward, people are inventing things for the betterment of society not for 15 minutes of fame because they had a wank in the shower or made a paella that wasn't dry.

All valid points. It was one of the highest rating programs on the ABC and if the commercial stations were interested at all, you'd think they would have done something by now? The reality is anything worthwhile usually ends up going OS, the govt really needs to encourage more home grown inventions to stay in Australia and market them globally.

No they wouldn't. It depends on who set it up and who was the major sponsor. If the major sponsor was an investment fund or a venture capitalist firm then they would control the production value and what type of products were on the show.

Now the reasons you are suggesting, is probably why its never been shown on commercial free TV.

The best place for it to be shown would be on Sky News Business channel or an equivalent channel, which doesn't need to rate 1.5mil people every night its on, is sponsored by an investment fund who wants to promote the development of new technologies and is prepared to carry the production costs and wants to attract a business type audience.

It could work on a commercial free TV station but it would need a complete change in mind set of the standard thinking of commercial TV executives.

I reckon you lie in bed at night imagining this is kochie singing to you...

You obviously have all of Andy's records and know his stuff inside out. What were his shows like back in the day?? ;)

I miss Diana Fisher from the original Inventors. No matter what the invention was she always asked what colours it came in.
