Thanks for not exploiting my idiocracy on this one. Can't believe I missed it!
At least you asked and as teachers say in school "If you don't know there's sure to be at least one other in the class who doesn't know but didn't put his hand up.". I've seen more than one similar post on this board or the main AFL board ask WTF a piece of footy jargon meant. The site is good that way.
My own knowledge gap at present is related to the use of 'falcon' by commentators as either a general stuff up, or a specific type of stuff up. I keep waiting for adequate context to both nail it and work out where it came from. Also years ago I coached Auskick and a dad who didn't follow footy asked me what an 'on-baller' was. I just barely got away with a plausible explanation.
These terms just slip into commentary with no explanation, we need an AFL-approved glossary.

A falcon is when a player is (accidentally) hit in the head / face with the ball. It's normally always amusing.

Wikipedia gives some context, although being Wikipedia, take it with a grain of salt.
The phrase originated from rugby league in Australia. On The Footy Show, casual presenter Mario Fenech's weekly segment was introduced by a piece of footage from his playing days showing a ball being passed accidentally into his head. Fenech, being of Maltese descent, has the nickname "The Maltese Falcon", and thus the 'Golden Falcon Award' began to be informally awarded to players whose head came into contact with the football in professional matches. This was shortened to just 'Falcon', and its use became more widespread, referring to any instance of an object coming into contact with a person's head.

That's great, thanks. And yes the Wikipedia explanation is super-plausible. I appoint you the AFL's new glossary editor, present to the offices in Melbourne this Wednesday for induction.

but seriously, why is it "fotography" instead of "photography" that's always pissed me off.

Perhaps more importantly, why Moschos and not nachos? Everyone loves nachos.

Peter Nachos Photography© would be schooling the All Ords in a manner not seen since Tony Greig first pronounced it.

It makes more sense if you read it in a deep, Austrian male accent with a monotone inflexion.

Dat music, dat final chase. Dat "For england james" "No, for me."

Don't ever make the mistake of digging out the N64 to play it.

I had the misfortune of doing just that a few years ago and the gap between my nostalgic memories and brutal reality was roughly the equivalent of watching Federer/Nadal live in HD and playing Pong on a Commodore 64 via 1995 dialup.

Had the same experience downloading the PS1 classic Syphon Filter on the Playstation Store a few years back. The resolution alone was intolerable.

Please remember Pete has asked that his photos not be altered.

How can we forget.

I have a stash of hundreds of altered 'fotos' for the lulz.

Mario Fenech was an inspirational onfield leader for Souths and Norths in the then NSWRL, but almost a comedy character off the field and it was a case of life imitating art when he appeared in the SBS Comedy "Pizza" were he played the infrequent Uncle Shiba. He used to have a bit on the NRL Footy Show where his line was "What's doin?". Nicknamed "The Maltese Falcon" he developed cult status after his retirement for some of his emotional on field antics.

GoldenEye, best FPS music ever. Of course it helps it is inspired from a classic film series, but still...

It has always amused me the number of people who use the term "falcon" without knowing it's links to Mario Fenech and his Maltese heritage.

I know this thread has gone way off topic but I just wanted to add that the bloke who goes running up to Mario in the blue jumper at the 41 second mark is a friend of mine, Mark Courtney. Wrote a great book about Souths' expulsion from the NRL during the time they were out of the comp. I'm in the acknowledgements :)
