I only saw it a few years ago and if I ever have to come up with a top 5 films it and Casablanca are there, I only have to worry about the other 3. I had not realised how many times it has been referenced in popular culture since.
I have this as a poster in my classroom :D

PUT DOWN THE DRINK FATTY.

Did that help?
Speaking of people who need to put down the drink.... I had a memory relapse today the conversation about bands was down the lines of butthole surfers , I think the band I was talking about was LARD!

Plus, you would have to be an insane creep to come up with the plots in his books

Referencing your own work and making it into a 'joke' is kind of sad too. All in all, the guy was probably bullied a lot in school and is eviscerating his tormentors and their perceived happiness in his fictional work. Then again, that makes for the best prose, so meh.

Nah you were on about a band I haven't heard of.

I have all Lards work.

Well...I gather he has made a bit of money from those alleged memories, so has the last laugh. And the moral of this is...get your retribution for a tortured childhood through torturing innocent fictitious characters through literature..and fascinate the Western World with your insane creepiness. Geez, I wish I could write books

I get where you come from but much of what is in the 'Song of Ice and Fire' saga is already out there in historical form. By dumb luck I had watched The Tudors shortly before I found Game of Thrones. To some degree it had the same mix of violence and gratuitous sex in it and it only dealt with Henry VIII, not even as the title implied his father Henry VII and his daughter Elizabeth I. Might as well have called it The Lanisters.

Are you describing some bands songlist, or an obscure deviant fantasy of yours Charcole?

I gather there would be a whole list of subjects to draw inspiration from in writing of these books...from the history of British monarchs to the Lord Of The Rings, but the journeys of individual characters and their lusts, loves and violent endings come from the authors dark mind himself
