a differential is what allows your wheels to turn at different speeds. Such as when turning a corner the inside wheel needs to turn slower than the outside wheel, this allows you to turn safely.

Locking the diff makes the wheels travel at the same speeds, giving extremely good traction, but you can't steer for shit.

Miss Feel once drove to the shops with the diff lock engaged, and called me in a panic saying something was wrong with the car and she couldn't turn into the carpark.

MFW it was the diff lock.

I used one of these out bush, carted tonnes of timber out. No brakes or clutch...didn't need a diff lock neither...never got bogged working in rough wet black soil and red soil country. City blokes need diff locks
