From club website...
"While Neade and Amon have simply dropped to lower numbers for next season, Mitchell saw the opportunity change to the No. 2 as an opportunity to learn about its SANFL past.
Previous stars to wear the guernsey include former captain and coach Matthew Primus and premiership heroes Darryl Wakelin and Josh Carr.
Mitchell is just the fifth player to wear the number in the club’s AFL history.
“I researched the history of the No. 2 and saw that Tim Ginever wore it during his career in the SANFL,” Mitchell told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“He’s a former captain and coach of the club and has a big involvement with keeping the culture of the club’s SANFL history so I asked him if he was happy for me to wear it and he said yes.”
portadelaidefc.com.au will reveal the numbers of its new players tomorrow.
No. 2
AFL players to have worn this number: Kane Mitchell (2015), Cameron Hitchcock (2011-2014), Josh Carr (2009-2010), Darryl Wakelin (2001-2007), Matthew Primus (1997-2000)
SANFL 100-gamers*: Maurice Allingham, Sid Ween, Thomas Kellaway, Don Fletcher, Dick Russell, Tom Williams, Darrell Cahill, Tim Ginever"
