Could be proved wrong in the end but it looks more like a political stunt than a terrorist act so far.

From the way these people have targeted the building they have, it seems very likely this is about publicity and trying to get as much exposure as possible. Not sure it would be classed as a political stunt as such, time will tell.

Problem is they can not just pop a few sniper shots and take out these people, we do not know if they have different groups of hostages inside the building, we do not know how many their are, wether they have bombs or other devices, etc.

Agree with raman, far better to interrogate. Now if that doesn't work, hand them to the SAS for some old fashioned interrogation!

There are armed seiges all around Australia and the world that are not classed as terrorist acts. The fact that this guy is an Islamist seems to be the only reason this is being called a terrorist act. Regardless he is either a fundy nutjob or has a mental problem, but terrorism to me is hijacking, blowing shit and people up, suicide bombings and random killings. I would like to keep the word terrorist for actual terrorism. The political class in this country will use any opportunity to use "terrorism" to further deprive us of our freedoms.

I certainly do. I have no idea how this will turn out and hopefully everyone gets out OK. What I don't want to see if this ends "peacefully" is George Brandis coming out next month with a whole new raft of laws to spy on Australian citizens because some whackjob decided to get a bit of publicity for himself.
