I'm stealing this for FB. :P

Please do.

I was on Twitter last night watching a group of "well meaning" white folk attack a Muslim bloke because he said what he thought about the underlying tone of #illridewithyou

His point was completely lost on them, as was the irony.

Had a big laugh when browsing the other mobs board. Someone did a comparison between Dayne Beams and their boy Patrick. One of the reasons they thought the Fish Head Creek boy was a better player was because he has won 3 GF sprints.

"Just an armed robbery with a Muslim in it, everyday shit"

Some people misread the situation a bit.
Pretty sad your first response to deaths is to point score on me.

Islam kinda sorta has a violence problem. Maybe it needs to put on its big boy pants and join the modern world.
Islam doesn't have a pope, its basically like the internet, a bunch of little nodes around the world that all do their own shit, with some a bit bigger than others. Affecting consistent change across all of that lot is virtually impossible.

To be fair, you did write off what was very obviously a religiously-motivated crime as a garden variety robbery.

I get it, generally speaking I'm a contrarian too, but sometimes things are exactly what they seem.

Oh I never said I was hopeful.

I guess I'm saying that religious extremists are basically 4chan.

At that point, the information available said all that had happened was a guy had a gun and was holding people hostage. No injuries, no deaths. Hostages were already leaving the scene. Armed robbers do that, yeah?

Do they put a Shahada flag in the window?

Based on what had happened, there was still a reasonable expectation of everyone getting out alive, particularly with hostages already leaving during the day. What has happened now is terrible, but at that point it hadn't happened.

This was presented a big event, deliberately by the perpetrator. My original post was basically that, at that point when everyone was alive, it was still only a relatively `normal' event no matter how much it is plastered all over the media to play in islamophobia, and that a disproportionate response to it would be a bad thing. This is still true.

We are disproportionately concerned and reactive about a showy terrorist event, but keep being unaffected by shit like the murder and 40 sexual assaults this guy has already committed with little remark like we were before yesterday. How many people even knew about those previous offences before this morning? How many cared? How are those victims?

A cafe across from Channel Seven in Martin Place hits us right in the white middle class goolies, same as a New York office block at 9-11, or shit, a landslide in white middle class Thredbo did nearly 20 years ago. This is terrible, the victims have been through a lot, but you know what? Someone else is going to be killed, r*ped, assaulted or all three today and we'll barely notice it.

I am extremely concerned that this is exactly the sort of event that can encourage our islamophobic government (reflecting its people) to engage dangerous measures, and justify the mistreatment of many more people than 23 in a cafe (how do you think this will play out for `boat people' if we all run with the terror?).

Pretty amazed about being reprimanded on this in this board's home of not being PC.

Kate also has the same number of letters as campaigner

Kate Miller has the same amount of letters as campaigner.

Coincidence?
She is promoting a campaign to boycott business that employ Muslims so she is without doubt a campaigner in all senses of the word.

The only hope I have is that she has a friend with a brain who points out how ****ing stupid she is.

The fact that she is in Broken Hill makes my hope almost futile.

This shit I'm seeing from some of my hick relatives in Whyalla is embarrassing. Sharing shit like "Follow our laws or get the **** out"....can we deport all the Australian-born, white ****wits who break the law too?

Edit: And they're all crows supporters (who've grown up on the EP!) so they post some shit stuff, but this takes the cake.
